  4. Before using this utility the first time, please
  5. open the options-menu, and specify the destination directory
  6. in which the files will be downloaded.
  7. This should be the same folder, Ad-aware is using for the referencefile.
  8. By default this will be Ad-aware installation directory.
  9. Note:It is recommended to check the backup option too.
  10.  
  11. After clicking the proceed button, your settings will be stored.
  12.  
  13. To check for updates, please follow these steps:
  14.  
  15. 1.choose one of our mirrors (they are updated simultanosely,
  16. 2.click on connect
  17. 3.follow the text messages for details
  18. 4.if an newer referencefile is available,
  19.   it will be installed
  20. 5.the connection will be closed
  21. 6.if your referencefile has been updated, please restart
  22.   Ad-aware and Ad-watch.

  24. You can also use the RefUpdate utility if you have no referencefile at all,
  25. or to replace a corrupted referencefile.In this case please delete the
  26. installed referencefile manually, and perform the update.
  27. If no referencefile can be located, the most recent file will always be downloaded.

  29. Since release 1.2, command line parameters can be used to
  30. remote control RefUpdate.
  31. The syntax is as follow : filename /parameter1 /parameter2 (optional)
  32.  
  33. The filename is by default refupdate.exe
  34. The first parameter specifies which server you want to connect to.
  35. lavasoft.de (server1) is always updated first, and most reliable.
  36.  
  37. The second parameter can be used to specify a different path for the referencefile then the default path.
  38. Using this parameter will not change the default path permanently.
  39. For a small example, please check the "example.bat" file in the installation folder.
