  17. Of course we don't suppose that Psychokey will
  18. damage your computersystem but if it does, don't
  19. blame us ! Computersystems are too complex to make
  20. clear prognosises about what is going to happen.

  22. 1. What is Psychokey ?
  23.  
  24. Psychokey is a program that deactivates the 
  25. Windows 95/98/ME screensaver password (even of
  26. a running screensaver as long as this screensaver 
  27. is running on a system with a CD-drive and activated 
  28. CD-drive-autorun-function). It will also try to 
  29. decrypt the screensaver password but it will only 
  30. decrypt passwords consisting of up to 14 characters.

  32. 2. When do I need Psychokey ?
  33.  
  34. You need Psychokey if you have forgotten your
  35. screensaver password and don't want to restart your
  36. computersystem by use of the RESET or POWER Button
  37. while Windows is still running because you believe that 
  38. this probably could cause damage to your complex and 
  39. sensitive computersystem.

  41. WARNING: You're not allowed to use Psychokey to get access
  42. to computersystems that you don't have the permission for !
  43.  
  44. 3. How do I use Psychokey ?
  45.  
  46. If you want to crack your password-protected and running 
  47. screensaver you will have to create a CD-ROM (use a friend's PC): 
  48. Copy all the files that belong to Psychokey (pkey.exe,
  49. pkeyhelp.txt, cncs232.dll, autorun.inf) to the CD-ROM's 
  50. main directory and insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive
  51. of the computersystem on which the screensaver is running.
  52. If the CD-drive-autorun-function of the computersysten is
  53. activated Psychokey will be started and will deactivate
  54. the password-protection of the running screensaver.
  55. After a while you should be able to get access to the 
  56. computersystem. Then you will see the open Psychokey-window.
  57. At the bottom of that window you will find the screensaver 
  58. password when it has been decrypted. The decryption can take
  59. a short while, depending on how long the password is.
  60. Between the beagle boy clipart and the safe image you
  61. will see something like a countdown. This number shows you
  62. how many characters of the password have still to be decrypted.

  64. 4. Which characters belong to the decrypted Password ?
  65.  
  66. When the Password has been decrypted at the bottom of the 
  67. Psychokey-window you will find something like:
  68. Password: <CAT>
  69. In this case the decrypted Password is: CAT
  70. The decrypted Password is everything between the < and > 
  71. characters but there is one case where it's not this way:
  72. If you find the following text at the bottom of the Psychokey-window
  73. Password: <CA<ASCIICODE(34)>T> 
  74. then the decrypted Password would be: CA"T
  75. The " character is always translated to <ASCIICODE(34)>
  76. Another Example: <<ASCIICODE(34)>HALLO<ASCIICODE(34)>>
  77. would be: "HALLO"

  79. 5. I haven't got a CD-Burner and would like to create
  80. a auto-run-able CD version of Psychokey to deactivate the
  81. password-protected and running screensaver of my computersystem.
  82. What can I do about that ?

  109. 1. Was ist Psychokey ?
  110.  
  111. Psychokey ist ein Programm, das das Windows 95/98/ME
  112. Bilschirmschoner-Passwort deaktiviert (sogar bei laufenden
  113. Bildschirmschonern, solange der Bildschirmschoner auf 
  114. einem System mit CD-Laufwerk und aktivierter CD-Autostart-
  115. funktion lΣuft). Psychokey wird au▀erdem versuchen, das
  116. Bildschirmschoner-Passwort zu entschlⁿsseln aber es wird 
  117. lediglich Passw÷rter, die aus bis zu 14 Zeichen bestehen,
  118. entschlⁿsseln.

  120. 2. Wann ben÷tigt man Psychokey
  121.  
  122. Man ben÷tigt Psychokey, wenn man sein Bildschirmschoner-
  123. Passwort vergessen hat und den Computer nicht mit der POWER
  124. oder RESET Taste neustarten m÷chte, wΣhrend Windows noch
  125. lΣuft, weil man befⁿrchtet, da▀ dadurch wohlm÷glich SchΣden
  126. am Computersystem entstehen k÷nnten.

  128. WARNUNG: Sie dⁿrfen Psychokey nicht dazu verwenden, um 
  129. Zugriff auf Computersysteme zu erlangen, wenn Sie nicht
  130. dazu befugt sind, auf diese Computersysteme zuzugreifen !

  132. 3. Wie verwendet man Psychokey ?
  133.  
  134. Wenn Sie beabsichtigen, Ihren passwortgeschⁿtzten und
  135. laufenden Bildschirmschoner zu umgehen, mⁿssen Sie eine
  136. CD-ROM erstellen (verwenden Sie den PC eines Bekannten): 
  137. Kopieren Sie alle Dateien, die von Psychokey ben÷tigt werden 
  138. (pkey.exe, pkeyhelp.txt, cncs232.dll, autorun.inf) 
  139. in das Hauptverzeichnis der zu erstellenden  CD-ROM und legen 
  140. Sie dann diese in das CD-Laufwerk des Computersystems, dessen
  141. Bilschirmschoner umgangen werden soll. Wenn die CD-Autostartfunktion
  142. aktiv ist wird Psychokey automatisch starten und den Passwortschutz
  143. des laufenden Bildschirmschoners deaktivieren. Nach einer Weile
  144. sollten Sie dann Zugriff auf das System erhalten. Dann werden Sie
  145. das ge÷ffnete Psychokey-Fenster erblicken. Nachdem das Passwort
  146. entschlⁿsselt worden ist, werden Sie es am unteren Rand des Fensters
  147. ablesen k÷nnen. Die Entschlⁿsselung kann eine kleine Weile dauern,
  148. was von der LΣnge des Passwortes abhΣngt.
  149. Zwischen der Panzerknacker-Zeichnung und dem Panzerschrank-Foto
  150. werden Sie eine Art Countdown sehen. Diese Zahl zeigt Ihnen,
  151. wie viele Zeichen des Passwortes noch entschlⁿsselt werden mⁿssen.

  153. 4. Welche Zeichen geh÷ren zum eigentlichen Passwort ?
  154.  
  155. Wenn das Passwort entschlⁿsselt worden ist, werden Sie am unteren
  156. Rand des ge÷ffneten Psychokey-Fensters einen Text erblicken, der
  157. dem folgenden Σhnlich sein fⁿrfte:
  158. Password: <KATZE>
  159. In diesem Fall ist das entschlⁿsselte Passwort: KATZE
  160. Das entschlⁿsselte Passwort ist Alles zwischen dem < und > Zeichen
  161. aber es existiert eine Ausnahme:
  162. Wenn Sie den folgenden Text am unteren Psychokey-Fensterrand vorfinden...
  163. Password: <KA<ASCIICODE(34)>TZE>
  164. ...dann lautet das entschlⁿsselte Passwort: KA"TZE
  165. Das " Zeichen wird stets als <ASCIICODE(34)> dargestellt.
  166. Ein weiteres Beispiel: <<ASCIICODE(34)>HALLO<ASCIICODE(34)>>
  167. wⁿrde bedeuten: "HALLO"

  169. 5. Ich besitze keinen CD-Brenner, wⁿrde aber gerne eine auotstartfΣhige
  170. CD-Version von Psychokey erstellen, um den Passwortschutz des laufenden
  171. Bilschirmschoners meines Computersystems zu deaktivieren.
  172. Was kann man da machen ?
  173.  
  174. Setzen Sie sich einfach mit Psychoware per e-mail in Verbindung
  175. (verwenden Sie den PC eines Bekannten) und wir werden Ihnen
  176. gegebenenfalls eine solche CD-ROM erstellen und per Post zusenden :)
  177. allerdings wⁿrden wir etwa 20 DM ben÷tigen, um die Unkosten zu decken.
