  5. This archive contains an Installer.app package for GNU fileutils-3.16.

  12. These are the GNU file management utilities.  Most of these programs
  13. have significant advantages over their Unix counterparts, such as
  14. greater speed, additional options, and fewer arbitrary limits.
  15.  
  16. The programs that can be built with this package are: chgrp, chown,
  17. chmod, cp, dd, df, du, install, ln, dir, vdir, ls, mkdir, mvdir, mkfifo,
  18. mknod, mv, rm, rmdir, sync and touch.  But mvdir is built only on systems
  19. that lack the rename system call.

  21. The programs cat, cut, expand, head, paste, split, tac, tail and
  22. unexpand, which used to be part of the fileutils, are now part of the
  23. textutils.  cmp is now part of the diff distribution.

  25. The fileutils are intended to be POSIX.2 compliant (with BSD and other
  26. extensions), like the rest of the GNU system.  They are almost there,
  27. but a few incompatibilities remain.
