  1. "elvis-2.0" a nice vi replacement is available as "elvis-2.0.N.bs.tar.gz".

  3. The archive "elvis-2.0.N.bs.tar.gz" contains the source distribution and two 
  4. *black binaries* (elvis and xelvis). The 'xelvis' binary can also be used
  5. under X11 (usage: "xelvis -G x11"), the smaller 'elvis' binary is the normal
  6. one for usage in a NS terminal.

  8. There are a lot of new features in elvis-2.0. The major ones are:

  10. - Multiple edit buffers
  11. - Multiple user interfaces (termcap, x11, open, quit)
  12. - Multiple windows (under the termcap and X11 user interface)
  13. - A variety of display modes (normal, syntax, hex, html, and man)
  14. - Hardcopy from within elvis (can be used to print hex dumps, pretty-printed C 
  15.   code, or formatted HTML documents or man pages)
  16. - A C-like expression evaluator
  17. - Elvis is now extremely customizable
  18. - Online help in html format (yes, elvis now can read html)
  19. - and much much more...

  21. The advantages of elvis over the old vi which comes with NEXTSTEP are
  22. that it offers many more features over the old NS vi and it is also
  23. available for many other operating systems.
