  1. This is version 2.6 of pgp (but _NOT_ the MIT-version). This is
  2. the version for use outside the USA. I have included part of a
  3. posting by Mike Johnson on alt.security.pgp, so that you can see
  4. if this really is the version you want.  In this directory you will
  5. also find the version 2.6mit (for use in the USA).

  7. I have applied the following patches to the original distribution:
  8. -In pgp26ui/src I have removed all carriage returns from the *.c and *.h files
  9. in order to compile this beast on a NeXT (I've only changed these
  10. sources -- but there are still carriage returns all over the place; but
  11. it also works with the old set of configuration files, e.g. from pgp2.3a).
  12. -I've copied the makefile.unx to Makefile and optimized the linker
  13. call for the NeXT-supplied compiler (by adding "-object -s" to the
  14. LDFLAGS).
  15. So don't let the file dates bother you. You can check the files
  16. with md5sum (as supplied in contrib/md5sum) against the file
  17. pgp26ui.md5 -- don't forget to strip of pgp26ui.md5 of the carriage
  18. returns as well (e.g. by running "tr -d "\015" <pgp26ui.md5
  19. >newfile"). I didn't want to mess with this file since nobody would
  20. have believed me afterwards, would you? I only wonder how the
  21. checksum could ever have been correct with all those carriage returns...?
