  3. The DADiSP package is being made available in demonstration form at
  4. major NeXT archive sites.  Currently there have been two releases of
  5. DADiSP for the NeXT.  The previous release, DADiSP version 2.01, is
  6. being superseded by the current release associated with this README
  7. file.  This release is DADiSP version 3.00B.
  8.  
  9. What does DADiSP provide for NeXT users?  DADiSP offers an enormous
  10. range of data analysis and display functions for scientists and
  11. engineers.  It is an interactive graphical worksheet within which you
  12. may manipulate your technical data in almost any way.  DADiSP is
  13. particularly powerful in some specific areas:
  14.  
  15.     Automated analysis, including macros and command files.
  16.     Customized analysis, featuring user-definable menus.
  17.     Manipulation of large datasets (> 1 Meg).
  18.     Filter design and applications.
  19.     Provides analysis `templates' for re-usable worksheets.
  20.     Provides spreadsheet associations between datasets.
  21.     Provides hundreds of statistical, mathematical, and graphical
  22.         data manipulation functions, macros, and menus.

  24. DADiSP Demo 3.0 is a fully working version of DADiSP except that it
  25. lacks the ability to save or load any user data.  In addition, it
  26. comes with an automatic startup script which will step the user
  27. through various DADiSP examples.  Note that you are free to use DADiSP
  28. functions to create and manipulate data in the demo version, though
  29. you will not be able to save your results.

  31. To install this package, first use ftp in binary mode to bring the
  32. package to your local machine.  Un-tar the file by typing:
  33.  
  34.     tar xvf DADiSP.Demo.Version3.pkg.tar
  35.  
  36. This will install a package called DADiSP.pkg in your current working
  37. directory.  Locate this package in your File Viewer window and
  38. double-click on it to bring up the installer application.  Follow the
  39. instructions provided with the Installer to install DADiSP on your
  40. machine.

  42. DADiSP requires about 2 Megabytes of disk space when fully installed,
  43. once the DADiSP.pkg directory has been removed.

  45. When DADiSP is installed, double-click on the DADiSP.app icon in the
  46. File Viewer to begin an automated demonstration of DADiSP.
