-
- Information
- Solar Geek is a two player game of strategy and skill. The object of the game is to
- prevent the star in your solar system from becoming enlarged. The star gains mass
- and volume whenever objects that arrive from outer space are sucked into the star due
- to gravity.
-
- Player 1's space ship will begin each round of play on the left side of the screen.
- Player 2's ship will begin each round on the right side of the screen.
-
- Each player's ship can increase its velocity by use of the thrust button. Steering
- is accomplished by simultaneously pressing the thrust button and either of the left or
- right rotate buttons.
-
- Game play is alternated between the two players in a two player game. The alternations
- are based on when a player dies, and not on the completion of a game level. After one
- of the players has lost all of his/her ships and his/her game is over, game play for the
- other player continues uninterrupted until all of the remaining players ships have been
- destroyed.
-
- Points are awarded whenever an object is destroyed. The point value of the objects vary
- and are somewhat related to the size of the object. In general, smaller objects score
- more points.
-
- After the completion of each level of play, the radius of the star is decreased by 25%.
- A "Sun Radius Bonus" is awarded upon completion of each level. The bonus is based on
- the radius of the sun and a level multiplier. Basically, the smaller the radius of the
- sun, the larger the bonus. The bonus is multiplied by a factor equal to the completed
- level number up to a maximum of level 10. As the level of play increases, the occurrence
- of Aliens and UFOs becomes more frequent. Aliens fire both randomly and at the player.
- UFOs shoot more bullets than Aliens, and concentrate their assault on the player. UFOs
- are more likely to appear at higher levels.
-
-
-
- Hyperspace
- If a ship finds itself in trouble, it can use its hyperspace device to instantaneously
- transport to a random location in the playfield. Caution should be exercised when using
- hyperspace due to a significant chance of destruction on reentry. Thus hyperspace should
- be viewed as a device of last resort.
-
-
- The Star
- A star resides in the center of the field of play. The star has gravitational attraction
- to the player's ship, the objects, as well as the bullets fired by the ship. The intensity
- of the gravity as well as the radius of the star will increase incrementally each time an
- object hits the star. Collisions between the ship and the star are fatal.
-
-
- Ship Controls (Default)
-
- (use keyboard)
- "z" - rotate left
- "x" - rotate right
- "," - thrust
- "." - fire
- "m" - launch Super bullet (if one is available)
- <space> - hyperspace
-
- You can customize the individual player controls through use of the Controls Panel. Type
- (command-C) to bring up the controls panel. Changes made to the key definitions do not have
- to be saved to the keys definition file to be used. Keys saved to the definitions file will
- be used as the default the next time a game is launched.
-
-
- Acquisition of Super Bullets and Extra Ships.
-
- An extra ship is awarded every 10,000 points. Super Bullets are obtained by flying your ship
- into the Super Bullet Pod. A Super Bullet Pod will appear at a random time after every 5,000
- points is achieved. A Super Bullet is not awarded if the Pod is shot by the player, destroyed
- by contact with the Star, or floats off screen to "outer space". If the Pod is shot by the
- player, 500 points is awarded. No points are awarded for running into a Super Bullet Pod.
-
-
- Limitations
-
- The NeXT computers are capable of only recognizing two keys down at a time. Therefore, you
- cannot be thrusting, rotating, and firing simultaneously. But even with that limitation, the
- game is still very amusing.
