- DefaultsSystem
- ==============
-
- Purpose
- -------
- This is graphical administration tool for the NeXTstep defaults database
- realized on a Preferences module. It stresses the administration of owners:
- save selected owners for backup reasons in a .defaults file (the package
- contains a Workspace contents inspector for that format), reload those files
- using a filter, search a string in the database, look for owners without a
- corresponding application in the search path and remove the obsolete ones with
- a single mouse click. Of course you can add/remove/inspect defaults of selected
- owners. You may also read .dset-files but without the ability to use the open
- filter.
-
-
- Changes To Version 1.2
- ----------------------
- - quad fat (thanks to Hadar Pedhazur)
- - adopted to Preferences new module size (Version 3.3)
- - new Test panel (you *will* like it)
- - smaller Find panel
- - recursive owner search paths
- - backup the whole database with a single mouse click
- - new menu structure
- - better help
- - specify additional owner types
- - more preferences
- - bug fixes
- - DefaultsInspector has new sort order
-

- Installation Notes
- ------------------
- Use "gnutar" to unpack!
- You can use DefaultsSystem.preferences without installing it through double
- clicking the bundle icon.
- To register a Workspace inspector you must choose "Update Viewers" or log out
- and log back in.
-
-
- Note For Users of NS 3.1 and NS 3.2
- -----------------------------------
- The height of the NEXTSTEP 3.3 Preferences modules is smaller then those in
- prior versions. To get the old height set it to "192" in the "General Settings"
- preference.
-
-
- Note For German Users of NS 3.1 and NS 3.2
- ------------------------------------------
- Leider hat sich in 3.3 auch die Breite geƤndert. Im Verzeichnis
- "German.lproj/Resources" von DefaultsSystem.prefences befindet sich eine ".nib"
- Datei mit der alten Breite.

- Help File Notes
- ---------------
- Due to a bug in the AppKit (the use of the "compresshelp" utility is not
- possible for supplementary help) the help files take a lot of disc space. You
- may remove the *.lproj directory (within DefaultsSystem.preferences) of any
- language you don't use and save about 1.4MB per language.
