  15. WSC Investment Services and Hutchison Avenue Software announce the GnatsKit,
  16. a freeware front end bundle for the GNU bug tracking utility.

  19. Q:  What is the GnatsKit?
  20.  
  21. A:  The GnatsKit consists of a bundle, an application, and a library,
  22.     with source to all.  You can use the GnatsKit in several ways: you
  23.     can simply use the application, or if you want to include Gnats
  24.     report-making capability into your own custom application, you
  25.     simply link against the library and include the bundle into your
  26.     application. You don't need to do anything else, since the objects
  27.     in the library will automatically modify your menu to add the "Bug
  28.     Report..." menu item. It's as simple as it gets, since you don't
  29.     have to write a single line of code to include powerful bug-reporting
  30.     functionality into your application!

  33. Q:  Who owns this kit? Are there any licensing fees?
  34.  
  35. A:  This kit was developed by Hutchison Avenue Software for WSC
  36.     Investment Services, a Wall St. financial services company. WSC is
  37.     the copyright holder, WSC has generously decided to donate the kit
  38.     into the public domain, but with a catch! If you enhance the kit,
  39.     then they ask that you keep them up to date with your fixes and
  40.     improvements.

  43. Q:  OK, fine, but what the %$*&! is 'GNATS' ?
  44.  
  45. A:  Gnats is the GNU bug tracking utility. Installing Gnats on your system
  46.     gives you a centralized email-accessable bug report database. The
  47.     intent of the Gnats Kit was to provide functionality like
  48.     BugNeXT.app, but centered around the Gnats database! Gnats has many
  49.     features, including search by email for your clients (so they can
  50.     find out the status of bug fixes without bothering your
  51.     programmers), autorespond (where Gnats automatically informs the
  52.     submitter that their bug report has been received), and others.
  53.     Combining Gnats with the Gnats Kit gives you a world of
  54.     functionality, for an unbeatable price.

  57. Q:  Hey, I thought you said this was free?
  58.  
  59. A:  I did. It is. :-). You get the full source to the Gnats Kit, and
  60.     don't have to pay a dime.

  63. Q:  So, there's no catch involved?
  64.  
  65. A:  Well, I didn't say that! In order to compile the source, you'll need
  66.     the HascKit, which is our reusable library of Objective C objects.
  67.     It's pretty cool, and will be announced soon, although it's possible
  68.     to purchase pre-release versions, and have the amount discounted from
  69.     the price of the full release when it's ready... The HascKit has all
  70.     the cool objects that show up in our custom and shrink-wrap apps like
  71.     Phone.app and Invoice.app (amongst others). You still get a full
  72.     double-fat binary for everything in the Gnats Kit though, so you don't
  73.     have to compile anything if you don't want to.

  78. A:  As soon as our HP machine arrives (any day now).
