The code is based on VideoApp (see your /NextDeveloper/Examples folder, thanks to Jeff Martin). You need Icon (comming with your NeXT, thanks to Keith Ohlfs) or better Movie (see the ftp-sites, thanks to Patrick J. Flinn)
DVR is a quick-outside-working-hour-hack with not very much (in fact: none) performance tuning. May be, may be not, there is another version next month. There is one warning: Before starting to record - lets say Star Wars, Part one - think about the memory you need.
There is a shell-script called companim for litte compression of the saved animation using tiffutil.
