  3.     GateKeeper 2.0 for ppp2.2
  4.     GateKeeper is a graphical user interface control for ppp2.2.

  9.    GateKeeper prompts the user for a Yes or No before creating 
  10.    a log file or FIFO.
  11.  
  12.    In response to a wide variety of very app specific requests,
  13.    GateKeeper now executes a preLink and a preUnLink script
  14.    if one or both of these exist within its app wrapper.  
  15.    Based on the exit status returned by these scripts GK
  16.    determines whether to proceed and Link or UnLink.  These
  17.    scripts inherit GateKeepers' suid root powers so be careful
  18.    what you put in them.

  39.    This release simplifies a few implementation details and makes
  40.    GateKeeper easier to use and install.  The version has been
  41.    bumped up to 2.0 since the underlying ppp configuration has
  42.    been changed slightly, although, ppp configurations which work
  43.    with versions 0.9 and 1.0 should continue to work. 
  44.  
  45.    Distributing GateKeeper with BIND which is necessary for the
  46.    Dial on Demand feature results in a very large package.  
  47.    Although DoD is a really cool feature not everyone is 
  48.    interested in it and so I have unbundled BIND from the source
  49.    distribution during the Beta test phase.  Nothing has been
  50.    changed in BIND from GateKeeper release 1.0a which contains
  51.    BIND 4.9.3

  56.     While this program is GNU type freeware, support for it is not.
  57.     Comments and bug reports are always welcome, but if you would
  58.     like support I ask for the following:

  60.       1.  If you are a non-commercial user and are doing some type
  61.           of FSF GNU or other freeware work for the UNIX community
  62.           let me know and we'll call it even.  The same is true if 
  63.           you provide a software package free to single users or
  64.           if you have contributed to the creation of GateKeeper.

  93.     GateKeeper is now installed from a package.  Thus insuring 
  94.     that it is installed as SUID root.  
  95.  
  96.     Gate docs no longer require an absolute path to the chat 
  97.     pppup script.

  99.     GateKeeper checks for mail in the queue and provides an 
  100.     icon warning.  This mechanism can help avoid a later Dial
  101.     on Demand ppp session initiated by sendmail.

  103.     The threshold below which GateKeeper will trigger Inactivity
  104.     Timeout can now be adjusted via GK's preferences.
  105.  
  106.     GateKeeper can now be set in preferences to use an ordinary
  107.     log file as its IPC mechanism with pppd/syslogd. The polling
  108.     technique from the UNIX tail command is used, although, this
  109.     method is not as efficient as the FIFO option.
  110.  
  111.     The options file within a Gate doc can now be edited
  112.     graphically.  GateKeeper now checks whether the real user has 
  113.     permission to access a file before allowing editing or Linking.  
  114.     Older versions required a recompile in order to achieve this.
