  3.     GateKeeper 1.0a for ppp2.2

  5.     GateKeeper is a graphical user interface control for  
  6.     ppp2.2.  It allows you to launch, kill and view diagnostic 
  7.     output from the "pppd" daemon.

  14.     GateKeeper will bring down the ppp link once it has been
  15.     inactive for a period as set in it's preferences.
  16.  
  17.     Toolbar which is also capable of displaying the icon of the
  18.     selected Gate doc (used in subsequent launch of pppd).

  20.     GateKeeper can be configured to perform dial on demand when
  21.     triggered by a slightly modified BIND named daemon.  This
  22.     requires that you operate a secondary DNS server on your local 
  23.     host.  While GateKeeper is running it will replace
  24.     the default named server with it's own version which will
  25.     trigger GateKeeper into performing dial on demand.  Of course
  26.     this assumes that all DNS queries require the ppp link to be
  27.     established.

  29.     This dial on demand mechanism does not work well if pppd
  30.     encounters a busy signal and GateKeeper redials.  The 
  31.     resolver queries may timeout under the aformentioned 
  32.     circumstances.

  37.       intuitive 3D Reality.  See the info panel.

  43.     GateKeeper 1.0 is being rereleased as rev. 1.0a due to the 
  44.     recent (2/15/96) CERT advisory regarding BIND versions prior 
  45.     to 4.9.3. The enclosed BIND 4.9.3 is used only in triggering 
  46.     dial on demand so you can omit installing it if you do not 
  47.     plan to use this feature.

  58.     GateKeeper version 1.0a requires a properly installed  
  59.     ppp2.2.  Please read the online NeXTHelp installation 
  60.     instructions and the README file.

  63.     The GateKeeper has the following features:

  66.     --  Inactivity timeout
  67.     --  display pppStats
  68.     --  Dial on demand (triggered by NS Apps and UNIX tools)
  69.     --  Capable of auto-launching pppd using defaults or using
  70.         information from a GateKeeper document
  71.     --  AutoRedial if provider's line is busy.
  72.     --  Manual Dial and login to a ppp provider without using
  73.         a script.
  74.     --  Persistent connection will redial and link to your
  75.         provider if the connection is unexpectedly dropped.

  78.     --  Secure mode which translates all output from pppd to
  79.         "X"'s.  This provides some user feedback as to pppd's
  80.         progress in establishing the link.
