- NetsurferTM 1.1
-
- What's New in This Release:
-
- Enhancements
-
- * You can now set the number of folders (shelves) appearing
- in the Resource Index. See Preferences->General.
- * Netsurfer now provides NEXTIMETM video playback
- capabilities including support for the new experimental <VIDEO> HTML
- element for support of inline videos. An example of this feature
- can be found in the demo document:
-
-
- ftp://ftp.netsurfer.com/pub/next/Netsurfer/Demos/ToyStory.htmld.tar.gz
-
- See the section entitled "Notes About Video Playback
- Support" in the Netsurfer online help for more information about
- this new capability.
- * Netsurfer now supports HTML background images.
- * Netsurfer now supports HTML background, text and anchor colors.
- * Netsurfer now has built in JPEG, PNG, and XBM image support.
- * You can now drag HTML documents directly into a Browser
- Window to display them.
- * Netsurfer now supports tn3270 URL types directly.
- * The behavior of the "back" and "forward" buttons is now
- independent of the history list. They now function in a manner more
- appropriate for surfing.
- * Netsurfer now checks for user default "StartupURL" and if a
- value exists, will open the specified URL upon application launch.
- * Netsurfer now checks for URL(s) on the command line and
- will open the specified URL(s) upon application launch.
- * Netsurfer is now more intelligent about preserving the
- current viewing rectangle when HTML documents are resized to
- accomodate newly arrived inline images.
- * There is now a preference for whether or not to do
- ISO-8859/1 (Latin 1) character translations when interpreting HTML.
-
- * Netsurfer will now honor the GLOBAL default
- "NXFixedPitchFont" for the font type to use for preformatted <PRE>
- text in HTML documents.
- * Netsurfer is now faster when returning to view cached pages.
- * Netsurfer is now faster when displaying HTML forms.
- * Netsurfer now automatically saves a backup of the
- IndexDatabase file (IndexDatabase~) before every save of the
- Resource Index.
- * Netsurfer now uses approximately 20% less cache memory (RAM).
- * Netsurfer now supports Gopher through proxy gateway servers.
- * Netsurfer now internally caches DNS (Domain Name Service)
- lookups for host names.
- * You can now Ctrl-double click on links in an HTML document
- to view the associated anchor URL in the Open panel. For
- consistency, in addition to Cmd-double clicking on the URL icon in
- the Browser Window, you can also now Ctrl-double click to view the
- current page's URL in the Open Panel.
- * You can now set the color of "visited" links in the Browser
- Window. See Preferences->Text Styles.
- * You can now configure a list of servers that will not use
- configured proxies. See Preferences->Communications.
- * Large HTML form elements now size proportional to the
- browser window size.
- * You can now set the behavior of the Resource Index when
- opening items. By default, Netsurfer will open a new Browser Window
- for every item opened. This behavior can now be changed to force
- Netsurfer to use an existing open Browser Window to display the
- selected resource. See Preferences->General, "Open New Browsers".
- When configured to open new resources using existing Browser
- Windows, you can still force a new Window to be opened by holding
- down the Command key when opening the item in the Resource Index.
- * For HTML pages, when attempting to open a page that is
- already being displayed, Netsurfer no longer opens a second Browser
- Window for the page. The existing Browser Window is brought to the
- front instead.
-
- Bug Fixes
-
- * When clicking to the left (outside) of a centered image
- that contained a link anchor, Netsurfer would erroneously activate
- the link.
- * HTML special entity characters and ISO-8859/1 (Latin 1)
- characters are now handled correctly within FORM elements.
- * The html <BASE> tag is now correctly supported.
- * File permission problems on certain files in the
- English.lproj folder of Netsurfer.app have been fixed.
- * HTML paragraph breaks <P> and horizontal rules <HR> would
- break preformatted (<PRE>) text.
- * When returning to a pervious page that contained a form,
- the "Reset" or "Revert" button did not function correctly.
- * When entering a password in the HTTP Authentication panel
- without pressing Enter, the password was not used correctly.
- * HTTP redirection did not function properly when the
- redirection from the sever was specified relative to the same host
- as the original request.
- * HTTP proxy authentication now functions correctly.
- * When returning to a cached page containing forms, sometimes
- part of the form data would be incorrect when the form was
- submitted a second time. Also, clearing of the re-visited form did
- not function correctly.
- * Netsurfer would not open local HTML files with a .HTM[L]
- (uppercase) extension properly.
- * Netsurfer would sometimes crash when changing the HTML Text
- bullet preference.
- * When re-submitting forms containing <TEXTAREA> fields,
- sometimes, spurious information would be included in the field upon
- form submission.
- * The width of pages is now made to always match the width of
- the window. This problem would cause centered elements to not
- appear correctly on pages that were narrower than the visible area
- of the Document Window.
- * HTML paragraph breaks <P> and horizontal rules <HR> would
- break centered (<CENTER>) text.
-
- Notes
- * Netsurfer will not try to render HTML with background
- images and colors on systems with 2-bit grayscale video.
- * Carriage Return (Ctrl-M) characters in HTML documents were
- ignored. Apparently, current practice (Netscape as opposed to the
- HTML specification) translates these into spaces, Netsurfer now does
- this as well. This problem (assumption) affected some HTML
- documents created on Macintosh systems.
- * Netsurfer now places temporary files in
- /tmp/Netsurfer/<username>.
- * The HTML <H1> heading style is now rendered centered on the
- page.
