  3.               TipTop Software Ships TipTop Version 1.5

  6. Bethesda, Maryland, December 22, 1994 ---  TipTop Software is proud
  7. to announce that TipTop v1.5 is now shipping.  TipTop is the most
  8. advanced, easy-to-use telecommunication and terminal emulation
  9. program for NEXTSTEP available today.
  10.  
  11. TipTop Software thanks all its customers for making the release of
  12. v1.5 possible.  As always, our design is driven by your feedback.
  13.  
  14. The main TipTop features include:
  15.  
  16.   - Easy to use GUI: Standard NEXTSTEP user interface features.
  17.     The terminal window features a toolbar, a scrollback buffer, a
  18.     find panel, changeable fonts, etc.  Built-in PhoneBook and Inspector
  19.     facilitate easy and convenient configuration of the communication
  20.     parameters, window appearance, and other settings.
  21.  
  22.   - Terminal Emulation: ANSI, VT102, and VT220, all including ANSI
  23.     color support.
  24.  
  25.   - Serial Ports/Shells: Multiple serial (modem) port connections
  26.     and shell sessions.  The UUCP locking protocol is used for serial
  27.     ports.
  28.  
  29.   - Scripting: A powerful script programming language based on Tcl,
  30.     Expect, and Objective C!  The automatic script generator makes
  31.     it easy to create basic scripts.

  33.     [Among other things, the scripting language can run ``term''
  34.     which is used to establish a SLIP-like connection to a remote
  35.     site.  This allows several simultaneous terminal sessions to
  36.     be connected to a remote site, while files are transferred and
  37.     remote commands executed.  One can even run remote X-window
  38.     clients connected to the local X-server.]

  40.   - Application Programmers Interface (API): TipTop's internal
  41.     objects can be messaged from a script as well as from other
  42.     applications.

  44.   - File Transfer: Bundled transfer protocols include X-, Y-, and
  45.     ZMODEM.  Any external transfer protocol can be used with TipTop.
  46.  
  47.   - Key Bindings: Flexible keyboard mapping.  Any key (with or
  48.     without combinations of the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift modifiers) can
  49.     be redefined as any character, string of characters, script, or
  50.     even as an Objective C message!

  52. New features in v1.5 include:
  53.  
  54.   - Loadable bundles allow end-users to extend TipTop without
  55.     limits.  For example, end-users can design their own objects,
  56.     such as toolbars, dialog panels, etc. and fully integrate them
  57.     into TipTop.
  58.  
  59.   - Remote serial port feature allows access of serial ports on
  60.     any NEXTSTEP computer reachable through a network from TipTop,
  61.     i.e., a remote modem session can be opened just as if the modem
  62.     were directly attached to the local computer.  The server machine,
  63.     i.e., machine to which the modem is physically attached, requires
  64.     a TipTop Serial Port Server.  The server will be released soon.
  65.  
  66.   - The API is greatly improved.  It is now easy to design new
  67.     toolbars, new session objects, new session panels, etc.
  68.  
  69.   - Many GUI improvements, including new Toolbar, Dial, and Term
  70.     interfaces.
  71.  
  72.   - ISO Latin 1 character encoding is included.  Users can create
  73.     their own character encodings.
  74.  
  75.   - Email transfer scripts allow email transport from and to Mail.app
  76.     through TipTop.  When the deliver button is clicked in Mail.app,
  77.     the outgoing message gets queued.  When the SendMail script is
  78.     run, all the messages that are queued locally get transferred to
  79.     the remote machine and sent to the appropriate recipient(s).
  80.     When the GetMail script is run, all the messages stored in the
  81.     remote mailbox get transferred to the local machine so that they
  82.     can be read in Mail.app.  This is very useful if one has a Unix
  83.     account with email access, and no email access for the local NS
  84.     machine.  (These sample scripts are not supported by TipTop
  85.     Software.)

  87.   - And much, much more...

  89. TipTop telecommunication software runs on Motorola, Intel, and HP
  90. PA-RISC machines running NEXTSTEP 3.1 or higher.  TipTop still costs
  91. only $185 + S/H ($4 FirstClass Mail within US, $8 AirMail to Europe).
