  4. NXFax is a reliable, high speed, fax solution which
  5. integrates perfectly with NEXTSTEP on Motorola and
  6. Intel based computers. Anything you can print you can fax
  7. just by pressing the Fax button on the Print Panel. You
  8. read, log, assign, and archive your faxes with the
  9. NEXTSTEP FaxReader. NXFax works perfectly with your
  10. favorite data communications programs like UUCP, SLIP,
  11. PPP, tip, Kermit, and MicroPhone.

  59. You can test NXFax before you decide to purchase. Without
  60. a password, NXFax runs in demo mode allowing you to send
  61. (but not receive) any number of single page faxes.  To

  98. UPGRADING FROM AN OLDER VERSION OF NXFAX
  99.  
  100. NXFax version 1.04 runs on Intel hardware and supports
  101. more different brands of modems than NXFax 1.03.  If you
  102. are still using a NeXTstation or Cube and not changing
  103. modems, you can keep using version 1.03. 
  104.  
  105. Upgrades to NXFax 1.04 are free for registered customers
  106. who can retrieve the software from an FTP site or archive
  107. site (refer to the section "Where To Get NXFax
  108. Electronically"). There is a $15 handling charge for
  109. receiving an upgrade via U.S. mail.  
  110.  
  111. NXFax 1.02 users who want to upgrade to NXFax 1.04 must be
  112. running version 3.0 or higher of NEXTSTEP.   
  113.  
  114. Everyone who upgrades from a prior version of NXFax will
  115. require a new password. Password updates are free for
  116. registered users who provide us with a previously
  117. registered Host ID.

  136. MULTI-ARCHITECTURE FORMAT   
  137.  
  138. NXFax 1.04 is shipped in Multi-Architecture Binary
  139. format so that it works with NEXTSTEP on both NeXT and
  140. Intel hardware. NEXTSTEP 3.1 (or later) is required to
  141. use this version of NXFax 1.04.  NEXTSTEP 3.0 users should
  142. request a special "NeXT only" version of NXFax 1.04
  143. directly from Black & White.

  147. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR INTEL USERS
  148.  
  149. NEXTSTEP 3.1 for Intel shipped with a serial driver that
  150. does not work for high speed data and fax communications.
  151. If you want to install NXFax 1.04 on Intel hardware, you
  152. must either use NEXTSTEP 3.2 or obtain an updated serial
  153. driver directly from NeXT.

  159. If you have FTP access or can receive VERY large NeXTMail
  160. (about 1.3 meg), you can get NXFax 1.04 electronically.

  174.   NXFax can be sent to you automatically via NeXTMail from
  175. the ANDI info server.  To obtain NXFax this way, send mail
  176. to info@andi.org.  The subject you specify will
  177. determine what gets sent to you.  Type the subject exactly

  191. NXFAX INSTALLATION
  192.  
  193. After retrieving one or more of the files listed above,
  194. perform the following steps to install NXFax, as
  195. appropriate. 
  196.  
  197. NXFax1.04.tar : 
  198.  
  199. To unpack the NXFax1.04.tar, type "tar xvf
  200. NXFax1.04.tar" in a terminal window.  This command will
  201. create the application wrapper NXFaxInstaller.app in
  202. the current directory.
  203.  
  204.  NXFaxInstaller.app.m68k
  205.  
  206. This file must be renamed to NXFaxInstaller.app in order
  207. to proceed.

  209.     
  210. All releases:

  212. 1.  Turn on your modem and log in as root.
  213.  
  214. 2.  Launch the NXFax Installer by double clicking on
  215. NXFaxInstaller.app.
  216.  
  217. 3.  Choose Info from the Installer menu.  Choose Help from
  218. the Info menu.
  219.  
  220. 4.  NXFax 1.04 users should read “The Basics” to
  221. familiarize themselves with NXFax's on-line help.

  223. instructions there.
