  1. DATACORE PPP SOFTWARE V1.113

  3. DataCore PPP v1.113, a Point-to-Point Protocol software for systems
  4. running under NeXTStep 3.1 and higher, is offered for SPARC, Intel,
  5. NeXT and HPPA architectures, but HPPA and SPARC are still
  6. in beta testing stage.

  8. DataCore's Point-to-Point Protocol Software is especially designed
  9. for NeXTStep platforms to interconnect local area networks or to
  10. simply connect a standalone NeXTStep machine to the Internet via a
  11. service provider.  The self installing package comes with a highly
  12. integrated NeXTStep application for easy handling of configuration
  13. files, daemon control and administration.

  15. DataCore PPP is able of demultiplexing an IP packet stream on
  16. several transport devices (RS-232 modems as well as TCP/IP based
  17. modems and probably ISDN adaptors soon), regarding the speed and
  18. load of each device.

  20. The common Van Jacobsen TCP header compression algorithms, protocol
  21. field compression, address and control field compression enhance
  22. the link performance of DataCore PPP. In addition to the standard
  23. PPP escape an extended escaping method increases the reliability
  24. of the link.  The built-in priority manager promises faster
  25. interactive sessions for services like telnet or rlogin. An
  26. implementation of a well known LZW compression and DES encryption
  27. algorithm guarantee security and high performance.

  29. For authentification purposes the standard user/ password
  30. authentification protocol (UPAP) and the improved challenge
  31. authentification protocols (CHAP) are supported by the software.

  33. Other features like selective dial on demand, packet rejecting,
  34. idle timeouts and priorities are each configurable by IP packet
  35. patterns (source/destination ip, source/destination ports, and all
  36. other important information in IP headers). These patterns can be
  37. grouped together into named timegroups being active in a  separately
  38. configurated time interval.  All these features can be easily
  39. configured either by the included NeXTStep application or by editing
  40. the human readable configuration files with an UNIX texteditor.

  42. DataCore PPP is able to support individual dialup scripts. The
  43. administrator is pleased to write them in whatever language he
  44. prefers (Perl, C, or for simple dialups even shell scripts, using
  45. the included UNIX commands).

  47. To interactively control the DataCore PPP a UNIX command is included
  48. to change the configuration, link state and logging style at runtime.

  50. For easy setup of the software an logging system is included. It's
  51. possible to enable or disable groups of log messages which may be
  52. separated into individual files.

  54. Not like other PPP software, this package is well separated into
  55. two parts:  A very small loadable kernel server and a daemon
  56. responsible for most of the functionality. This separation grants
  57. a highly stable product since most of the complex code is running
  58. outside the kernel space.

  60. To sum it up it can be said that DataCore PPP is the most advanced
  61. and user friendliest PPP software for NeXTStep 3.1 and higher.
