  1. Why 'Paula?'

  3. Paula plays the so-called ModFiles. These ModFiles, also called modules,
  4. originate from the Amiga which has a special four-channel PCM soundchip
  5. called Paula.

  8. What does Paula?
  9.  
  10. To avoid a rather lengthy description, here is a short list with Paula's features:

  12. 1. Internal:
  13. - Compatible to really all MOD-formats, ranging from old SoundTracker
  14.   format to the new ProTracker format.
  15. - Two sampling frequencies are available: 22 and 44 KHz.
  16. - Linear interpolation option giving a great improvement in sound quality.
  17. - Booster option, rising the S/N ratio by 6 dB.
  18. - Completely independent pitch and speed tuning.
  19. - Supports LZ5 or AFX compressed modules.

  21. 2. User interface:
  22. - Programmable like a simple CD player.
  23. - random play of several modules.
  24. - one module or a whole selection may be repeated.
  25. - CPU Load and position display.
  26.  
  27. New in version 1.0a:
  28. - some bugs fixed.
  29. - Edit and Services menus implemented.
  30. - ModFile Directory now configurable.
  31. - play list shows either modnames or filenames.
  32. - included a tool to convert mod.* filenames.
