  1. Sequence
  2. ========

  4. Sequence is the first MIDI sequencer and DSP synthesis application
  5. available for the NeXT computer.  Paired with a MIDI interface,
  6. Sequence allows NeXT users to record and play music using MIDI
  7. compatible keyboards and sound generators.  When MIDI equipment is not
  8. available, users can compose and play music using the NeXT's built-in
  9. DSP to generate CD quality sound output.  Sequence provides a library
  10. of  DSP "voicings" including: piano, electric bass, strings, voice,
  11. woodwinds, and percussion instruments, which can be modified to create
  12. custom sounds.

  14. Sequence's intuitive graphical interface takes full advantage of the
  15. NeXTstep environment.  Drag-and-drop measure editing allows the user
  16. to move, copy, insert, merge or replace groups of measures.  Note and
  17. MIDI controller editing can be performed either graphically or with
  18. the event-list editor.  Transforms such as Quantize, Transpose,
  19. Velocity Adjust and Time Shift are provided, including a randomize
  20. option which can be used to "humanize" sequenced passages.  Sequence's
  21. multi-document support allows you to simultaneously edit multiple
  22. files and effortlessly transfer data between them.

  24. Sequence reads and writes standard MIDI files as well as NeXT Score
  25. and Playscore file formats.  Sequence also transmits MIDI Real-Time
  26. clock, enabling you to synchronize external devices such as
  27. drum-machines and hardware sequencers to Sequence's playback.

  29. The version of Sequence available from this archive will run in Demo
  30. Mode until enabled with a license key available from Pinnacle
  31. Research.  The following functions are disabled in Demo Mode:

  33. - saving of Score, MIDI or Playscore files
  34. - dynamic-loading of Transforms
  35. - saving of Voicings
  36.  
  37. All other functions are fully enabled in Demo Mode.

  39. Although the version number indicates that this release of the
  40. application is "Beta", it is nonetheless available now for purchase.
  41. Sequence was released in Beta form because there was no other way for
  42. NEXTSTEP users to do sequencing under NEXTSTEP.   Unfortunately, due
  43. to a number of factors, Sequence has been in beta much longer than we
  44. anticipated or intended.  We sincerely regret the inconvenience that
  45. this has caused our users.  As has been our policy since the first
  46. public release, all registered purchasers of this and any future Beta
  47. versions of this application will be entitled to an upgrade to version
  48. 1.0 when it becomes available.

  50. Existing users of Presto should be sure to read the file "Upgrading"
  51. to help ensure the upgrade goes smoothly.
