  2.           README to accompany the new X11 R5 Xnext (Mouse-X) server

  5. NOTE:  Mouse-X will not run on Intel machines, period.  Sorry!

  7. This new version of the public domain "Mouse-X" server is an X11 Release 5
  8. server, and fully supports all the functionality of that release.  The X
  9. source code was patched up through fix-22, and then modified for the NeXT
  10. platform.

  12. These binary files were compiled using Gnu gcc 2.3.3 on a NeXT running OS 3.0.
  13. None of this new release will run under OS 2.1.  Sorry.  A patch to allow
  14. others to compile the complete X tree and the server from the MIT source is
  15. available on the cs.orst.edu archive.  This allows 2.1 users to compile their
  16. own set of binaries.

  18. This new version now can be used with the ADB-style NeXT keyboards.

  23. Contents of the compressed tarfile:

  25. 1) Xnext and Xnext.color
  26.  
  27. These are the two servers, one for running on monochrome machines, and one for
  28. color machines.  The *same* server is used on Turbo and non-Turbo machines.
  29. None of the Mouse-X servers will run on a NextDimension machine.

  31. 2) Xfe.app

  33. By far the most effective way to run this server is to use the Xfe.app front
  34. end which is included.  Install this in /LocalApps or ~/Apps.  It includes a
  35. help window with fairly detailed instructions on how to use it.

  39. For those users who wish to run this server from a script or from the command
  40. line, remember that if you do so, you cannot escape back to the NeXTstep
  41. window without quitting X entirely.
