  1. Main features of the teTeX distribution:

  3. - file organisation TDS (TeX Directory Structure) Standard compliant
  4. - very easy to install and customize (install.sh and texconfig utility)
  5. - LaTeX2e (June 1996) together with lots of
  6.   extra LaTeX packages (most packages mentioned in the LaTeX Companion)
  7. - a lot of documentation: more than 130 dvi/ps-files, teTeX manual, FAQs
  8. - support for read-only inputs tree (i.e. possibility to use alternate
  9.   destination for newly created fonts)
  10. - ready for a multi platform setup
  11. - fast file searching. web2c patched to work with kpathsea-2.6. The
  12.   search paths are chosen to give high performance.
  13. - run-time configuration files for dvi-drivers and tex+friends.
  14. - a nice set of fonts to play with: PostScript fonts, ams, pandora, cm,
  15.   dc, oldgerman and more. All easily accessible by LaTeX.
  16. - METAPOST included
  17. - the whole distribution can be installed anywhere in the
  18.   filesystem (e.g. /usr/TeX or /usr/local/tex). You do not
  19.   need to set any environment variable as long as you keep
  20.   the original structure of the package.
