  1. ConvertSelection.app -- FREEWARE -- Aug 17, 1996

  3. ConvertSelection provides a collection of services that convert
  4. special characters within a selected range of text, according
  5. to self-defineable rules. For instance, you can convert text to
  6. HTML format while preparing a web page in Edit, or to 7-Bit ASCII
  7. format before sending the text as a plain-text e-mail.

  9. Includes on-line help in English, French, and German.

  12. ConvertSelection comes with eight predefined conversion services:

  14. Convert to HTML
  15. Convert to HTML (incl. meta chars)
  16.  
  17.     Converts language-specific special characters like umlauts or
  18.     accented ones to HTML entities. THIS IS THE END OF FIDDLING
  19.     WITH PANELS OR BROWSERS WHEN ENTERING SPECIAL CHARS INTO YOUR
  20.     WEB PAGE'S TEXT. Just key-in your text, select it, and convert
  21.     the special chars contained within to HTML format.

  23. Convert from HTML
  24.  
  25.     Opposite of the above. Converts &...; strings back to
  26.     human-readable characters.

  28. Convert from ISO-Latin1-encoded
  29. Convert from NEXTSTEP-encoded
  30.  
  31.     Ever received a mail that shows lots of stray =FC's and =E4's
  32.     instead of umlauts or accented chars, as well ='s at most line
  33.     ends? Use one of these two services to convert the stuff back
  34.     to human-readable form.

  39.     Does what they say it does.

  41. Convert to 7-Bit ASCII

  43.     Converts German umlauts and sharp 's' to Ae Oe Ue ae oe ue ss.
  44.     Strips accents from all other language's special chars. Useful
  45.     to make sure that your language's special chars are at least
  46.     somehow recognizable on foreign platforms and don't display as
  47.     whatever character a foreign platform might guess.

  50. You can easily modify the conversion rules of these services,
  51. add new rules to any of these services, or create entirely new
  52. conversion services to your liking.

  54. ConvertSelection can convert plain ASCII text selections, RTF text
  55. selections, and *** RTFD text selections ***.
