  3. Welcome to Rosetta. Rosetta is a tool to help you handling the different
  4. character sets of common computer systems. These character sets are equal
  5. within the 7 bit range (0 to 127, called ASCII) and differ in the upper half
  6. (128 to 255), where a lot of special characters (e. g. German umlauts) are
  7. located.

  9. Rosetta offers the ability to convert one or more text files from one to
  10. another character set. The conversion always uses ISO 8859-1 as basic
  11. character set. When converting a text file from NeXTstep to Apple Macintosh,
  12. Rosetta first translates the letters to ISO 8859-1 and then from ISO 8859-1 to
  13. Macintosh format. Due to this procedure, a few characters that are not within
  14. the ISO 8859-1 set will be lost.

  16. Version 2.1 implements the NeXTstep release 3 dragging mechanism. Furthermore
  17. this version of Rosetta offers conversion by the Services menu. More new
  18. features: conversion into TeX style, new design and an inclusion of a MAB for
  19. Motorola, Intel and HP-PA processors.
