- next_slip_digex
- ===============
-
- This is the compressed NeXT_SLIP_DIGEX distribution which
- includes all of the necessary instructions, packages, files and
- scripts to install the Serial Line Internet Protocol software by Louis
- Mamakos on your NeXT computer and connect to a SLIP account on
- digex.net. There are two files in this distribution:
-
- next_slip_digex.readme.rtf - You have found that one... Good Start!
-
- next_slip_digex.compressed - The compressed archive of all the necessary files.
-
-
- Follow these steps to begin your installation:
-
- NOTE: You must be logged in as root to complete this installation
- procedure. If you are not logged in as root do so now and open this
- file (~/next_slip_digex.readme.rtf) again when you are.
-
- 1. Get the file next_slip_digex.compressed from this site and put
- it somewhere safe in your ~/home directory.
-
-
- NOTE: In this, and the following examples, replace ~/home
- with whatever location you desire. Remember though to change
- ~/home in the following examples to the proper pathname.
-
- 2. I recommend at this point that you make a COPY of the file
- next_slip_digex.compressed from your ~/home directory
- and move it to a more permanent place, preferably onto a spare
- 1.44 MB floppy for archival purposes.
-
-
- 3. Use the NeXT WorkSpace Manager's Decompress command to unpack
- the archive next_slip_digex.compressed. This should unpack this
- archive.
-
- 4. Double Click on the file ~/next_slip_digex/SLIP_920904-A/SLIP_v1.pkg.
- This will start the installer application. Click on the button to
- install the SLIP package. Install the SLIP files in the default
- location /usr/dialupip. After normal installation you may quit the
- Installer.app.
-
- 5. You are done with the first part of the installation. Now open
- the file ~/next_slip_digex/next_slip_digex.readme.rtfd and
- follow the further instructions there.
