  5. IMPORTANT!
  6.  
  7. 1) Before installing or running Moto Racer you must insure that 
  8. your Desktop color palette is set to 'High Color (16 bit)'.
  9.  
  10. 2) DirectX version 3 has to be installed on your PC (if in the 
  11. future you install another game which installs DirectX version 2 
  12. or 1, it might be necessary to reinstall DirectX 3 to play the 
  13. MotoRacer demo again).
  14.  
  15. 3) Make sure that there is no CD player running, if so quit any 
  16. Audio CD Player application (CD Player, FlexiCD, etc.).

  21.  T R O U B L E S H O O T I N G

  23.  
  24. IF YOU ENCOUNTER THE FOLLOWING PROBLEMS:
  25.  
  26.  
  27. - the game is very slow
  28.  
  29. 1) If you have an ATI 3D RAGE video board in your PC :
  30. Launch the game with the command line argument -noPal256 (just 
  31. create a shortcut on the program and add this argument after the 
  32. name of the program file on the target field).
  33.  
  34. 2) Try a lower screen resolution with F2 (toggle to a windowed 
  35. display mode if the full screen 320x240 screen resolution is not 
  36. available on your system). Change your desktop resolution to
  37. 640x480 if your video board doesn't have enough memory.
  38.  
  39. 3) The most recent version of your video board driver can 
  40. increase performance by up to 20%.
  41.  
  42. 4) The game uses floating point calculation intensively, some 
  43. processors are less efficient in this matter than others.
  44.  
  45. 5) Choose the lowest sreen resolution, decrease the detail level 
  46. by pressing the '-' key on the numpad, remove the top map 
  47. display by pressing F9.

  51. - When I turn left I can't do a wheelie or when I do a wheelie I 
  52. can't turn left :
  53.  
  54. 1) Some keyboards cannot efficiently handle the "Left Arrow key" 
  55. pressed at   the same time as some other keys. On the keyboard 
  56. configuration screen,   replace the space bar used for the 
  57. wheelie with another key, 'B' for   example.

  62. - I can't get the full screen 320x240 screen resolution
  63.  
  64. 1) You may have to reinstall your video board drivers after 
  65. you've installed DirectX. DirectX sometimes replaces your 
  66. existing drivers with older versions. This can result in the 
  67. inability to display the different resolutions available with 
  68. your video board.
  69.  
  70. 2) If you have a Matrox Millenium in your PC:
  71. To take advantage of this screen resolution, get the latest 
  72. version of its drivers and install them AFTER having installed 
  73. DirectX.
  74.  
  75. 3) Other cases :
  76. The latest version of your drivers may give access to this 
  77. screen resolution.
  78.

  81. - I have a 3D accelerator board but the game doesn't seem to use 
  82. it :
  83.  
  84. 1) Check you've installed DirectX version 3. If your 3D board is 
  85. not supported by DirectX, the game won't take advantage of your 
  86. 3D accelerator.
  87.  
  88. 2) Check the Direct3D Hardware Acceleration is enabled (launch 
  89. DirectX setup from your Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / 
  90. DirectX)
  91.  
  92. 3) If your 3D accelerator board doesn't support textures with 
  93. transparency, the game will run in Software 3D render mode which 
  94. doesn't use Direct3D and consequently doesn't use the hardware 
  95. capabilities of your 3D board.
  96.  
  97. 4) If your 3D board doesn't handle textured polygons (such as 
  98. the Matrox Millenium for example), the game will run in Software 
  99. 3D render mode. You can force the hardware 3D acceleration by 
  100. using the command line argument -D3D but you'll get no textures 
  101. as the board can't handle them.
  102.  
  103. ________________________________________________________________
  104.  
  105. - Black squares are visible around smoke or other objects. The 
  106. shadows of the bikes or the trees are rectangular.
  107.  
  108. 1) Your 3D accelerator board can't display polygons with 
  109. transparency, but makes the program think it can. You can launch 
  110. the game with the command line argument -noD3D to fix this 
  111. problem. However you won't take advantage of your hardware 3D 
  112. acceleration.

  114. ________________________________________________________________
  115.  
  116. - The screen remains black after having changed the screen 
  117. resolution while in full screen mode.
  118.  
  119. 1) Your video board driver may not properly handle the given 
  120. screen resolution. Switch to a windowed display mode by pressing 
  121. ALT + ENTER or switch to another screen resolution by pressing 
  122. F3 or F2 once more.
  123.

  126.  
  127. - the game doesn't work or the game freezes :
  128.  
  129. 1) If the game seems to have crashed while in full screen mode, 
  130. the program might have opened a Dialog Box not visible on this 
  131. screen. Try to close the box by pressing ESC or ENTER. You can 
  132. try to switch to windowed display mode too by pressing ALT + 
  133. ENTER.
  134.  
  135. 2) The game runs in full screen mode by default. You can force 
  136. it to a windowed mode with the command line argument -windowed.
  137.  
  138. 3) You can turn the sound OFF with the command line argument -
  139. nosound
  140.  
  141. 4) You can turn the hardware 3D acceleration OFF (if you have 
  142. such a board) by adding the command line argument -noD3D
  143.  
  144. 5) If you have a Sound Blaster AWE64 sound board, you'll need 
  145. its latest drivers (the version which works properly with 
  146. program intensively using floating point calculation).
  147.  
  148. 6) If you have a Pentium with MMX technology, you can disable 
  149. the MMX usage with the command line argument -noMMX
  150.  
  151. 7) You can turn the type of processor detection OFF with the 
  152. command line argument -noCpuDetect
  153.

  155.  
  156. - I have no sound :
  157.  
  158. 1) Check your Loud speakers are correctly connected to your 
  159. sound board.
  160.  
  161. 2) Check your sound board drivers are correctly installed.
  162.  
  163. 3) Increase the volume of your sound device by using the '/' and 
  164. '*' keys of the numpad.
  165.  
  166. ________________________________________________________________

  168.  
  169. - The command line argument are not taken in account :
  170.  
  171. 1) You must leave a blank space between subsequent parameters 
  172. and respect the case.
  173.  
  174. For example, if you have a 3D accelerator board and you want to 
  175. make the game run in software 3D render mode, you must create a 
  176. shortcut with a line in the target field such as:
  177.  
  178. "C:\Program Files\MotoRacer\Moto.exe" -noD3D
  179. (the path can be different)
  180.  
  181. If you want to disable the sound effects too :
  182.  
  183. "C:\Program Files\MotoRacer\Moto.exe" -noD3D -nosound
  184. (respect the case for each parameter)

  187. - Where could I find the latest drivers for a given video board 
  188. or sound board ? 
  189.  
  190. 1) On Internet.
  191.  
  192. 2) On the BBS of the board manufacturer (if available).
  193.  
  194. 3) By contacting your computer shop.

  196. 4) Directly from your computer manufacturer.
