  1. I. Installing the Battleground Shiloh Demo --
  2.  
  3.     1. From Windows, select the File menu (or the Win 95 Start button) 
  4.        and the Run menu item.
  5.     2. Enter:
  6.     d:\bgs_demo\setup
  7.        Note: If your CD-ROM is different from d:, enter the appropriate 
  8.        letter.
  9.     3. Note: you must have Video for Windows Version 1.1 installed on
  10.        your computer in order to run the Battleground Shiloh videos.

  12. II. Getting Started --
  13.  
  14.     To see a fully automated demo, do the following. First launch the demo, 
  15.     using the Battleground Shiloh program item. When prompted, select 
  16.     Automatic A/I for both Union and Confederate sides. This will play the 
  17.     demo Computer vs. Computer. When the A/I Dialog appears, you may wish 
  18.     to click on Step to advance the A/I manually, or click on Run to have 
  19.     the A/I run without stopping. To halt A/I processing, press the Escape 
  20.     key (or click on the Cancel button) when the A/I dialog appears. To exit 
  21.     the game, halt A/I processing and then select the Exit menu item from 
  22.     the File menu.

  24.     To try a battle against the computer, select Automatic A/I for one side 
  25.     and Manual mode for the side you wish to play. Here are some tips on 
  26.     how to play:
  27.  
  28.         1. To advance to the next phase, select the Next Phase menu item
  29.        from the Phase menu, or click on the clock icon in the upper
  30.            left hand corner of the tool box that appears on the left-hand
  31.        side of the screen.
  32.  
  33.     2. In the Movement Phase, you can move your units. Select a unit
  34.        by first clicking on its map hex with the left mouse button.
  35.        Then either double-click to select the entire stack of units in 
  36.        that hex, or click on one or more units at the bottom of the 
  37.        screen to just select certain ones. You then move the unit (or 
  38.        stack) by clicking with the right mouse button on a hex adjacent 
  39.        to that unit on the map.

  41.     3. In the Fire Phases, you can fire on enemy units. Select the unit
  42.        you wish to fire in the same way you selected it for moving, by 
  43.        clicking on its hex and then clicking on its picture at the 
  44.        bottom of the screen. Select its target by clicking with the 
  45.            right mouse button on a hex containing one or more enemy units.  
  46.        If prompted for a specific target by the Target Dialog, you can 
  47.        select the default simply by clicking on the Ok button.

  49.     4. In the Melee Phase, you can melee against units in hexes adjacent 
  50.        to your units. Select the target hex by clicking on the hex with 
  51.        the right mouse button. Then select your attacking units by first 
  52.            selecting them and then adding them to the melee using the Add 
  53.            to Melee menu item in the Melee Menu. When you are done adding 
  54.            units to the melee, you can resolve the melee by selecting the 
  55.            Resolve Melee menu item in the Melee Menu.

  59. III. When in Doubt --

  61.    If you are unsure what to do next in any given situation, you can always
  62.    get the computer to finish the current phase for you by clicking on the
  63.    A/I button that is located in the lower right hand corner of the tool
  64.    box that appears on the left-hand side of the screen.

  92.    This battle, the bloodiest day in American history, will be covered 
  93.    using the same Battleground features such as 3D maps and full multimedia
