  76. Hello and welcome to the Jixxa software package  from  Rhode  Island
  77. Soft Systems, Inc.! This  package  contains  Jixxa, the premier Jigsaw
  78. Puzzle game for Windows 3.1, plus 2 fun jigsaw puzzles to get you
  79. going.  This package contains an automated installation utility, and
  80. interactive  on-line help.  It should be noted that registered users
  81. of Jixxa receive the full retail version of Jixxa which contains
  82. everything in this shareware version PLUS several new game features,
  83. and a dozen more jigsaw puzzles!
  84.  
  85. The Jixxa puzzles in this package are intended for 256 color displays,
  86. so if you only have a 16 color display, you will not see the  full
  87. beauty of the images.  Of course, the game will still work, but not in
  88. the intended manner.  You can verify your color setting in the
  89. "Help... About..." box.

  91. The 2 puzzles in this package are made with "Large" and "Small" pieces.
  92. The registered version ships with additional, different piece sizes as
  93. well ("Medium" and "Tiny"), for more variety.

  95. The following information will guide  you  through  installing  the
  96. Jixxa files.   Once installed, the SETUP program will create a program
  97. group and install icons for the documentation files,  which you can
  98. read by clicking on the document's icon.

  101.                            VERIFICATION OF FILES

  104. At this point, please look for all of the files that belong to  the
  105. Jixxa package.  All  of the  files  are  listed in the file
  106. VENDINFO.DIZ. If the VENDINFO.DIZ file or any of the  files  listed in
  107. VENDINFO.DIZ are missing, please contact us for an official copy of
  108. Jixxa -- it would not be fair to either the user or Rhode  Island
  109. Soft  Systems,  Inc.   to  have  a  user  evaluate an incomplete
  110. package.

  113.                               INSTALLING JIXXA
  114.                               ----------------

  116. From Program Manager's main window, select "File".  This will cause a
  117. menu to drop down.  Next, select "Run...".  A dialog box will pop up
  118. requesting a "Command Line".  If  the  Jixxa files are on a floppy
  119. disk, insert the diskette into the A: or B: drive,  as  appropriate
  120. and  type  either "A:\SETUP" or "B:\SETUP",  respectively.  We must
  121. execute the "SETUP" program located on  the disk.
  122.  
  123. If  the  Jixxa  files  are  in a directory on a hard drive, enter the
  124. full drive and directory path to  where  the  Jixxa files are located,
  125. such as:  "C:\DOWNLOAD\TEMP\SETUP".  Please note  that  these  are
  126. just  samples -- subsititue the proper drive and directory, as
  127. appropriate.

  129. After entering the command to execute SETUP, press the ENTER key or
  130. click on the "OK" button.  At this point SETUP will handle the entire
  131. process of installing the Jixxa files.

  134.                             PLAYING BACKGROUND MUSIC
  135.                             ------------------------
  136.  
  137. Jixxa  now sports a brand new feature -- the ability to play background
  138. music while playing Jixxa!    Jixxa  can  optionally  play MIDI song
  139. files as background  if you so  desire.  From the "Options" menu you
  140. can turn the music feature on and off.
  141.  
  142. Make sure to  select  the  "Choose Music"  option  to select the
  143. directory where your MIDI music files are located.
  144.  
  145. When using this feature, Jixxa will rotate  through  all of the .MID
  146. files in the chosen directory.   Jixxa  "remembers"  the last file it
  147. played and starts at the next "new"  music file the next time you play
  148. Jixxa, so that you don't always hear the same songs played.
  149.  
  150. You must have a  sound  card  capable of playing MIDI music songs,
  151. such as a SoundBlaster or AdLib card.
