  4. Once you've unzipped to the directory of your choice,
  5. run SETSOUND to configure your sound setup, and then run
  6. ASCEND to run Ascendancy. If Ascendancy tells you it can't find a
  7. VESA driver, type "uvconfig -gen" to configure the UNIVBE driver.

  83. 4. Machine Requirements & Tips

  86. Ascendancy requires a 486-33 or better CPU with at least 8 megabytes of 
  87. RAM.  Approximately 12 megabytes of harddrive space are required for the
  88. demonstration version (about 15 for the full game).  Your video card must
  89. support SVGA 640x480 with 256 colors, and must be VESA compatible.  Your
  90. CDROM drive should be at least double-speed.

  92. *Note: Ascendancy has been successfully tested on slower systems, including
  93. slower 386 systems, but users may experience problems with digital music
  94. and graphics speed on these slower machines..

  96. If you need to free more memory to run Ascendancy, ensure that SMARTDRV.EXE
  97. is not using more than 2 megs of memory, or disable it entirely (at your
  98. discretion).
