  7. Thankyou for trying out Koan Web V.10 or Koan Plugin V1.0/V3.0 for Netscape.
  8. We hope you enjoy it/them!!

  10. First thing you will need to do is to run one of the self extracting 
  11. files, identified below.  Choose 16 bit versions for Windows 3.1 and
  12. 32 bit versions for Windows 95.  The self extracting .EXE files are 
  13. identifiable as follows:

  30. How do I install Koan Web or Koan Plugin?
  31. =============================================================================

  33. Setting up the SSEYO Koan Music Plug-in for either Netscape Navigator V2.0,
  34. Microsoft Internet Explorer V3.0, or Netscape Navigator V3.0
  35. ***************************************************************************

  37.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. When asked, browse to select the
  38.      directory containing your web browser application (either NETSCAPE.EXE -
  39.      typically in \Program Files\Netscape\Navigator\Program\Netscape.exe, or
  40.      IEXPLORE.EXE - typically in \Program Files\PLUS!\Microsoft Internet\IEXPLORE.EXE).
  41.      If not there already, SETUP will create a Plugins subdirectory under your
  42.      selected .EXE directory, and copy the Plugin DLL there. You will need to
  43.      choose a directory for other supplementary files, and it will copy the
  44.      SSEYO Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.
  45.  
  46.    2.Read and agree to the terms of the Software License.
  47.  
  48.    3.Restart your web browser (either Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet
  49.      Explorer V3.0).
  50.  
  51.    4.Connect to the SSEYO web page and check your setup works. 
  52.      If functioning correctly, you will see the Koan Icon display
  53.      in the web page as the embedded Koan file is downloaded and 
  54.      launches the Koan Plugin. Music will start to play. Should 
  55.      you experience any difficulties please see below. 
  56.  
  57.    5.The first time you connect to a page containing an embedded 
  58.      Koan file, try clicking with the right mouse button on the 
  59.      embedded Koan icon. You will be presented with a menu. You 
  60.      will see a menu allowing you to see information about the 
  61.      Plugin, launching Koan Web (which you will need to have 
  62.      downloaded) and various other options. You can change your 
  63.      MIDI device from the Setup menu item, but if you want to
  64.      change any of the other default options for the Plugin, 
  65.      including music volume etc. you will need to have Koan Web 
  66.      installed. 
  67.  
  68.      Note: If your MIDI Output device solely uses the OPL3 
  69.      chipset (e.g. SB16 and SB16 equivalents) or is one that 
  70.      doesn't support continuous volume controller changes then 
  71.      you should check the Use Koan ADSR checkbox (default). If 
  72.      you have a Wavetable soundcard or one that does support 
  73.      continuous volume controller changes (e.g. AWE32, SCC1, 
  74.      DB50XG, Gravis, NuSound) then leave this box unchecked.

  76.    6.Any Problems? 
  77.         1.Make sure your MIDI Mapper is set-up correctly (refer
  78.           to the Microsoft online help or, if you also have Koan
  79.           Web, see its online help) 
  80.         2.Check that your Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  81.           Device points to the MIDI Mapper or your installed 
  82.           soundcard driver.

  86. Setting up SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 as a Helper Application for your Web Browser

  89. General Setup 
  90. +++++++++++++
  91.    1.Run SETUP16.EXE or SETUP32.EXE. You will need to choose a 
  92.      directory for other supplementary files (e.g. the License), and
  93.      SETUP will copy the Koan Music Engine to the Windows directory.
  94.  
  95.    2.Read and agree to the terms of the Software License.
  96.  
  97.    3.Setup the Windows MIDI Mapper to point to your soundcard. If 
  98.      you are unfamiliar with the MIDI Mapper reference to the 
  99.      Windows online help or also the Koan Web online help.
  100.  
  101.    4.Check that your Koan Setup Options show that the MIDI Output 
  102.      Device selection points to the MIDI Mapper (which should be 
  103.      the default) or your installed soundcard driver. To do this 
  104.      select View Setup from the menu: to get help on the Setup 
  105.      Options dialog press the F1 key.
  106.  
  107.      Note: If your MIDI Output device solely uses the OPL3

  115. Setting up as a helper application

  120.      A) Download a Koan file and set up SSEYO Koan Web as a 
  121.         helper application on the fly 
  122.         1.Click on a "hotlinked" Koan file to download it.
  123.         2.You will get a message saying that it is an Unknown 
  124.           file type and asking you if you want to set up a
  125.           helper application/pick an application. 
  126.         3.Click Yes or Pick Application and select SSEYO Koan Web
  127.           (it will be where you installed it, most likely the 
  128.           KOANWEB directory) as your external viewer. 
  129. or;
  130.      B) Setup SSEYO Koan Web as a helper application in advance 
  131.  
  132.      For Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can use the
  133.        Explore | Options dialog to associate SSEYO Koan file
  134.        extensions (SKP, SKD, SKT, MID) with the SSEYO Koan Web 
  135.        program.
  136.  
  137.      For Netscape Navigator:
  138.        1.Select Options|Preferences|Helpers (pre V2.0) or
  139.          Options|General Preferences |Helpers (V2.0 or later).
  140.        2.Add a new Helper application with MIME type 
  141.          application, and MIME Subtype x-koan and File
  142.          extensions skp, skd, skt, skm.
  143.        3.Under Action, select Launch Application and add SSEYO 
  144.          Koan Web which you will have installed earlier.

  146.      For other Web Browsers :
  147.        Refer to the on-line help that came with your Web Browser.

  150. 16 bit/32 bit versions
  151. =============================================================================
  152. The 32 bit versions of Koan Web and Koan Plugin now support a
  153. multi-threaded composer, which can be enabled through the Setup Dialog
  154. (View Setup off the menu). This option enables Koan to keep on
  155. composing, even when the graphical user interface is fully engaged by
  156. the user. Previously, if the user interface were stopped while waiting
  157. for user input, the music could stop being played after the Composer
  158. Reaction time (View Setup) had elapsed.
  159.  
  160. Note that when using the multithreading option, you might experience some lack
  161. of smoothness in the played music, when you have a small amount of physical
  162. memory available (e.g. less than 16 Megabytes of base physical memory, and /
  163. or many applications loaded).  If this is the case, simply either increase the
  164. Composer reaction time from the default value of 1000 milliseconds (see the
  165. SSEYO Koan Web on-line help), or disable the multithreading option.
  166. Note that the multi-threaded composer is enabled automatically for the 
  167. new SSEYO Koan Music Plug-in V3.0 for Netscape V3.0, and may not be disabled
  168. in that case.

  170. The 32 bit versions are designed for use only with Windows 95 or later.
  171. The 32-bit Plugin for Netscape 2.0 may also be used with Microsoft Internet
  172. Explorer V3.0

  177. Don't forget you can use SSEYO Koan Web V1.0 or the SSEYO Koan Music Plugin
  178. for Netscape Navigator V2.0 or later to play back Koan pieces. Koan Web is
  179. also suitable for use as as helper applications for WWW browsers such as
  180. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator or Mosaic. Create your own
  181. pieces with SSEYO Koan Pro for use on the web. See our web page for more

  198.   from within Koan ... then the standard Creative Labs file AWEMAN32.DLL
  199.   must exist somewhere in your system path. Note that this was not the
  200.   case with very early Windows 95 AWE32 drivers from Creative Labs.

  232. SSEYO has just released this major SSEYO Koan music title, created by Brian
  233. Eno with SSEYO Koan Pro.
