*Please  Note*  If  you are not familiar with how a CD Rom drive works,
it  is  worth  knowing that the driver required to run your CD Rom is a
program,  and  takes  up  space  in memory just like any other program.
While  this  may  never  become an issue when running Windows programs,
you  may  find  your  computer running out of memory when trying to run
large  DOS  programs.  If  you  encounter  this  problem,  you have two
choices:   1.  Load  the  CD  Rom  Drivers  into  high  memory,  or  2.
Temporarily bypass the commands  to load extra drivers into memory when
your  computer  starts  up.  There are several methods of executing the
second  choice.  These  include:  a. Pressing  F5, or F8 just after the
system loads DOS which allows you to bypass the system files, or choose
which  commands  you want; b. Using  the  "rem" command to remove extra
drivers from the  AUTOEXEC.BAT  and  CONFIG.SYS  files. c. Using a BOOT
DISK, which may include  any version of the AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS
files, or  none  at  all. You may type "boot disk" at the DOS prompt in
your  CD  ROM  drive  to  start the boot disk utility on this disk.  We
strongly  suggest  reading  a  few chapters in your DOS or talking to a
technician, to help you become more comfortable with these topics.


For  fast  access  and  saving,  the program files will be installed on
your  hard  drive.  These  are  the complete files from the author plus
some  menu  files  from  Magicom. You  will have the option of deleting
the  files  after using the program if you would like to keep your hard
drive  free.

A  directory  called  MAGICOM  will be created on your hard drive if it
does  not  already  exist.  This  directory  will  be used to store all
Magicom programs  from this CD series.  Files  for a particular program
will  be  stored  in  their  own  subdirectory.

For  example:
    Hard Drive: C
    Program Name: Wolfenstein
    Directory: MAGICOM
    Subdirectory:  wolf3d

Our  menu  provides an easy way of starting the programs.  Just choose
run and then  select the program and press the ENTER key. We encourage
you to browse the program subdirectory for help files from the author.
These provide extra information that we cannot include in  the menu.

You can also locate the program executable file.  It will have an "EXE"
extension  most  likely, or ".COM" or ".BAT".  To start the program in
DOS just type the name of the executable file.  In Windows, choose RUN
from the File Manager, or Desktop in Windows '95.

You can  start  DOS programs, once they have been installed, by typing
MAGICII  at  the DOS prompt.  The  same  menu  as  you used to install
programs  the  first  time  will  appear.

Please  note:  Many  Dos  applications were designed to run in Dos only
because  they  demand  all  of your system's resources to run. In these
cases  you  will  have  to  exit Windows and start from the Dos prompt.

Special  Note:

Sound  Conflict  in  Windows

A conflict  may  arise over use  of  the  Windows sound system. In this
case  the  application  will "HANG".  If  you  experience this problem,
try running the  executable  file  from File Run or the File Manager in
Windows.  You  may  have   to look  at  the author's suggestions in the
files  in  the  program' s  directory.  The easiest way to get programs
working is to start them without sound first.

cas  où  ce  répertoire  n'existe  déjà  pas.  Vous vous servirez de ce
répertoire  pour  l'installation  de  tous les  programmes Magicom. Des

"Wichtiger  Hinweis"

Wenn  Sie nicht damit vertraut sind, wie ein CD Rom Drive funktioniert,
sollten  Sie  zur  Kenntnis  nehmen,  daß  es  sich  bei  dem  Laufwerk
(Driver),  welches  für das Abspielen Ihrer CD Rom erforderlich ist, um
ein  Programm  handelt,  das  wie  jedes  andere  Programm Speicherraum
beansprucht.  Während  diese   Tatsache   beim  Abspielen  von  Windows
Programmen  keine  Rolle  spielt, könnte es vorkommen, daß Ihr Computer
nicht  genug  Speicherraum  hat,  um  lange  DOS Programme abspielen zu
können.  Sollten  Sie mit diesem Problem konfrontiert werden, haben sie
zwei  Möglichkeiten:  1.  Entweder Sie laden die CD Rom Driver in einen
hohen   Speicherraum/High    Memory,   oder   aber   2.  Sie  entfernen
vorübergehend  (wobei  Sie den Befehl "rem" benutzen) den CD Rom Driver
aus  der  AUTOEXEC.BAT und CONFIG.SYS Kartei, nachdem Sie das von Ihnen
gewünschte  Programm eingegeben haben und starten den Apparat daraufhin

Wählen  und  klicken  Sie  das Programm (windows), oder aber wählen Sie
das    Programm    und    tippen    dann   "Eingang/ENTER"(DOS)  um  es
einzufügen  und  abzuspielen. Sie müssen Ihren Zugangs-Code, den Sie im
vorderen  Umschlag  der  CD  Verpackung finden, eingeben, um eine Liste
der  Programme  zu  erhalten.

Wie  man  das  Programm  von  DOS  Prompt  abspielt (ausschließlich DOS
Programme):  Die  einfachste  Art, DOS Programme zu starten, sobald sie

By  this  point  most  problems  will  be  gone.

4.  Be  very  careful   with   virus  problems.  Viruses  are  commonly
misunderstood.  They can be picked up and lay dormant for days, months,
or  even  years, making the source of a virus potentially impossible to
determine.  They  are  most  commonly  picked  up by using contaminated
programs  from  non-commercial sources. Programs you buy from reputable
retailers  and  software  developers  will  probably be clean. Programs
obtained  from  bulletin  boards,  or friends who got them from friends
...  have  a  far  greater  chance  of being virus infected. Check your
system  with  a virus scanner or a regular basis, and be extra cautious
with  new  material  from  doubtful  sources.

5.  Consult  your  DOS and/or Windows manual for information on running
the  programs  at  the  systems  level. Though we can help you with the
operation  of the programs, Microsoft, as the designer of the system is
your  best  source  of  this  information.

6.  If  you  still have questions about the program we encourage you to
call  the   author  as  listed  in  the   program  files.  The  authors
know the programs the best,  and will be  happy  to  lend assistance to
a user of their  product.
