  4. Roger Wilco Mark Ic mod1 is compatible with Mark I, Mark Ia, and Mark Ic and all betas thereof.

  7. CHANGES BETWEEN MARK Ic and Mark Ic mod1
  8.  
  9. 1.  The checkbox in the Adjust/Configure Wizard to "Run Roger Wilco at 
  10. High Priority" was not working at startup to switch it into high task priority if
  11. this was the selected option.  Users of games such as Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear
  12. were getting "chunky" audio as a result.  This has been fixed.

  15. CHANGES BETWEEN Mark Ia and Mark Ic
  16.  
  17. 1.  Added a button to Join panel that allows users to visit a webpage of fun
  18.     chat or game channels (users will need a compatible browser such as 
  19.     Netscape or Internet Explorer 5.0 to make this feature work)
  20.  
  21. 2.  Fixed a bug that caused some transmit keys to be mis-reported (e.g.: ~)
  22.     on the Transmit Tab.
  23.  
  24. 3.  Small bug in sound code could still produce a clicking sound.
  25.     This was fixed.
  26.  
  27. 4.  A bug that could cause some parties on a channel to be muted was fixed.
  28.  
  29. 5.  Improved browser compatibility so that NT systems work for Netscape or 
  30.     Internet Explorer
  31.  
  32. 6.  The Configure Wizard would try to re-open your soundcard device each time
  33.     you touched a control on the device selection panel.  This is fixed so that
  34.     it only attempts to do so when you hit "Next>>" to go on to the next panel.

  36. 7.  "Rapman for Roger Wilco" (see www.rapman.com) did not work
  37.     correctly when clicking on Roger Wilco channel links in a web
  38.     browser. Fixed.

  40. 8.  Several changes to make it more obvious that the "Transmit Key" functions
  41.     as a mute key when using voice-activated mode.
  42.  
  43. 9.  Licensing/registration is no longer required.

  45. 10.  Users can no longer enter blank callsigns and lurk invisibly on channels
  46.  
  47. 11.  a bug caused mike clicks to be turned back on each time you traversed the device
  48. selection panel in the Adjust/Configure Wizard.  This is fixed.

  50. 12.  Some new command line parameters have been added to augment Easy Bake integration:
  51.       /gain <1-255>   to set mike input level
  52.       /vox            selects voice-activated mode
  53.       /ptt            selects press-to-talk mode
  54.       /vox_lvl <1-255> sets voice-detect threshold in vox mode

  56. 13. RW now defaults to using high process priority to assist in continuous play

  60. UPGRADE NOTES 
  61. (for people upgrading from Mark I -- Mark Ia users will see little change)

  64. 1.  Settings that were previously recorded in the OPTIONS.TXT file have been 
  65. moved into the registry.  Mark Ia will backup your OPTIONS.TXT file in a
  66. "BACKUP" folder underneath the install folder.  A new OPTIONS.TXT will 
  67. be installed which describes the registry keys used and their function.
  68.  
  69. 2.  Settings in your GAMES.TXT used to require you to add new entries for 
  70. games yourself.  While this may still be the case, it is also possible 
  71. for us to add new entries as we hear of games requiring entries in this file.
  72. If you *do* find yourself needing to edit this file, be advised that its format
  73. has changed since Mark I and you should inspect it before diving in to edit it.
  74. The automatic conversion to the new format will backup your existing Mark I
  75. GAMES.TXT file into a Backup folder below the Roger Wilco installation folder.

  78. BUG FIXES (since Mark I)
  79.  
  80. 1.  sometimes, a loud clicking was heard if more than one person 
  81.     transmitted at once.  this should now be fixed in almost all
  82.     instances.
  83.  
  84. 2.  registration tolerates users mistakenly entering letter Oh for 
  85.     digit 0 and lower case ell for 1
  86.  
  87. 3.  Joining a channel now tolerates spaces mistakenly pasted in before or
  88.     after the hostname or IP address, simplifying cut and paste.
  89.  
  90. 4.  Netscape should now properly support web-based tuning (clicking on 
  91.     .RWC links on a website), and honor your request to "always open
  92.     these files".
  93.  
  94. 5.  web-based tuning via .RWC files should now properly work when tuning to
  95.     a second or third channel in succession (that is, the /leave command-line
  96.     parameter leaves the tuned channel when no channel name is explicitly
  97.     provided)
  98.  
  99. 6.  a bug that could cause crashes when visiting the Transmit Tab
  100.     (after selecting certain ranges of keys as the transmit key) has
  101.     been fixed.
  102.  
  103. 7.  when you are tuned to a named channel on a Roger Wilco Base Station (v0.25 
  104.     or later), you will see this clearly reflected in your channel tab
  105.     via a display such as Tuned to: www.rogerwilco.com/xray
  106.  
  107. 8.  added some new command-line parameters useful to people providing our
  108.     easy-bake integration, or building web sites that tune RW to
  109.     channels via links.
  110.  
  111. 9.  Roger Wilco would not work with certain games if you had installed Microsoft's
  112.     DirectX 7.0 update.  Roger Wilco now uses DirectInput to detect keystrokes,
  113.     fixing the problem.

  117. EASE OF USE ENHANCEMENTS (Mark I -> Mark Ia)
  118.  
  119. 1.  OPTIONS.TXT is no longer used.
  120.     All options within it are now either in the GUI proper or delegated to 
  121.     the registry (where they should not require any adjustment due to other 
  122.     changes)
  123.  
  124.     Automatic Mike Selection is now enabled or disabled via a checkbox on
  125.     the Configure Wizard (accessed from the Adjust Tab), rather than from
  126.     "automikeselect" in OPTIONS.TXT.  Mark Ia should hve maintained any
  127.         alterations you may have made in the now disused OPTIONS.TXT file.
  128.  
  129.     Setting Roger Wilco to use a high process priority (to eliminate chunky
  130.     audio) has been moved to the Configure Wizard (and is no longer set by
  131.     the "baseclass" parameter in OPTIONS.TXT)   NOTE: Mark I users who had
  132.     edited baseclass to be 128 in OPTIONS.TXT should find that Mark Ia
  133.         preserved their settings in the new checkbox.
  134.  
  135.     We altered Roger Wilco's Speaker Volume slider to have an increased 
  136.     effect at the highest end of its travel.  This should eliminate the 
  137.     need for Fighter Ace and Air Attack players to change the "maxplayvolume"
  138.     parameter formerly found in OPTIONS.TXT.   NOTE: few people will want to 
  139.     move their Speaker Volume slider to levels above 85% now.

  141. 2.  "System Settings" button on the Mike Test pane of the Configure Wizard will
  142.     offer Windows 98 and 95 users direct access to both the Playback AND 
  143.     Record Controls now, eliminating the confusion of switching the mode of 
  144.     the Playback Control panel.
  145.  
  146. 3.  Disabling Automatic Mike Selection will automatically bring up the System
  147.     Record Control to help the user quickly apply the manual mike selection.
  148.     NT users will have to switch the Volume Control into record mode to do the
  149.     same.

  164. 1.  when joining a Roger Wilco Base Station, you can add a /<channelname>
  165.     to the hostname or IP address in the Join popup.  For instance:
  166.     "www.rogerwilco.com/gold" or "24.11.45.111/gold/attack"
  167.  
  168.     This feature only applies to joining RWBS's (RW clients cannot 
  169.     as yet host named channels)

  171. 2.  Added command-line parameters to roger.exe that will offer developers
  172.     more flexibility when using our "Easy Bake" integration.
  173.     These parameters will be written up on our developer pages,
  174.     but here is an overview of additions:

  176.     /callsign <callsign>    (does not change default)
  177.     /netspeed n parameter for setting xmit bandwidth usage (does not
  178.         change default)
  179.     /priority <high|low> for setting task priority (does not change default)
  180.     /clicks <on|off> for setting mike clicks (does not change default)
  181.     /volume <1-255> for setting play volume
  182.     /key  for setting key codes e.g.:  /key ALT+PAD_0
  183.     /join1 <hostnameorIP>[/channelname] <passwd> for more robust tuning
  184.     /shutdown to completely shutdown Roger Wilco
  185.     /wizard to run only the configuration wizard
  186.     /nowizard to NOT run the configuration wizard (reasonable defaults will
  187.          be used if configuration has never been done)
