  36. 1. Skipping/Garbled Speech:  Some users have reported the in-flight 
  37. speech would skip or sound garbled.  This has been corrected.
  38.  
  39. 2. Movie Player: On some machines the movie player could occassionally 
  40. lock up, skip, or crash to the desktop.  The movie player has been improved 
  41. to reduce the occurence of these issues.

  44. II. INSTALLING THE PATCH
  45. -----------------------------------------------------------------------

  47. NOTE: If the hardware on your machine is not DirectX cerified you 
  48. may experience a decrease in performance after installing the patch.
  49. See the next section, DirectX and DXSETUP, for information on how to
  50. check whether or not your hardware is certified.
  51.  
  52. Copy The file LBG104e.EXE into the Longbow Gold directory (default is 
  53. C:\JANES\LBGOLD).  Goto the MS-DOS prompt and change into your 
  54. Longbow Gold directory.  Type LBG104E and press [enter]. The patch will 
  55. extract itself.  Then type PATCH and press [enter].  It will update 
  56. the appropriate files.  
  57.  
  58. You should receive a message indicating success.  After the patch
  59. has been correctly installed, press ALT-V when you are within the game.
  60. If it reads AH-64D Longbow Gold v1.04F, the patch is correctly installed.

  63. III. DIRECTX AND DXSETUP

  66. What Is DirectX?
  67.  
  68. Microsoft DirectX is a programming language extension that is available 
  69. with the Microsoft Game Software Development Kit (SDK).  DirectX 
  70. components include DirectDraw, DirectInput, DirectPlay, and DirectSound.
  71. DirectX provides tight integration between applications, hardware and 
  72. graphics accelerators for maximum graphics performance and easy customer
  73. installation.  DirectX drivers do this by providing software developers
  74. with a native Windows-based programming alternative to the older 
  75. MS-DOS-based display and sound specification.
  76.  
  77. DXSETUP:
  78. To check if your hardware is DirectX cerified, do the following.
  79.  
  80.    1. Insert Longbow Gold CD #1 (exit the Origin Gateway)
  81.    2. Double-click My Computer.
  82.    3. Right-click on the CD-ROM disc icon.
  83.    4. Click Explore.
  84.    5. Double-click the DirectX folder.
  85.    6. Double-click DXSETUP.EXE.
  86.  
  87. NOTE: The audio system has been adjsuted to take better advantage of 
  88. DirectX's DirectSound.  If your Audio drivers are listed with 
  89. No Hardware Support, you may find your performance will decrease if 
  90. you install the patch.

  92. If you find that your performance does decrease after installing the 
  93. patch, copy out the ROSTER.DAT file (your savegames) from the Longbow Gold
  94. directory.  Then uninstall and reinstall the game.  Finally, copy the
  95. ROSTER.DAT file back into the Longbow Gold directory.
