This former Sabres captain is beginning his fourth season as an ice-level reporter for the organization, which drafted him in the second round in 1974. Prior to his current post, Gare served as the radio color analyst during the 1995-96 season.
After 13 seasons in the NHL, Gare retired in 1987 after compiling 354 goals, 331 assists for 685 points in 827 games with Buffalo, Detroit and Edmonton. He scored on his first shift in the NHL and ranks 9th in Sabre history with 500 points. Gare reached the 50-goal mark twice in his career with Buffalo, scoring exactly 50 in 1975-76, and later tied for the NHL’s goal-scoring title with a career-best 56 in 1979-80.
A native of Nelson, British Columbia, Gare was elected in to the Sabres’ Hall of Fame in 1994.
