- | INTRODUCTION |
- ----------------
-
- BLASTEROIDS is an arcade game that has elements of Defender, Space Invaders,
- Star Trek, and Galaxia all rolled into one. It uses 256-color vga graphics.
- Blast your way through 50 sectors of space covered with the evil
- intergalatic fleet and collect weapons along the way to strengthen
- your defences! Do battle with 8 different types of enemy ships!
-
- Thanks so much for downloading this game and reading this file.
- I am pleased to announce my first graphics game ever, BLASTEROIDS. This
- game features awesome graphics, and great gameplay like the first arcade
- games we all played in the 80's! I've been working on this my whole
- summer and it's been exciting to learn more and more things each day.
- Peter Waller, from England, has been a great help in programming graphics.
-
- I hope you enjoy the results of this game.

- | REQUIREMENTS |
- ----------------
-
- BLASTEROIDS requires the following to run:
-
- * 386 Processor or better IBM PC or 100% Compatible
- * VGA Graphics
-
- -----------------------
- | RUNNING THE PROGRAM |
- -----------------------
-
- The following are the files BLASTEROIDS needs to run. The game will *NOT*
- run unless these files are found in the same directory unchanged:
-
- * BLAST.EXE - This is the main program.
- * BLAST.BIN - Contains necessary configuration of Blasteroids
-
- --------------------------------
- | Problems running BLASTEROIDS |
- --------------------------------
-
- To run BLASTEROIDS, switch to the directory where you have copied the
- program and type 'BLAST' and press ENTER.
-
- If the program doesn't run, check to see if you have a VGA monitor, 386 IBM
- PC computer, and all files needed to run this program. If that still doesn't
- work read below
-
- 1. Do you get an error message like this?
-
- Runtime error 002 at 019A:4529
-
- Problem : The BLAST.BIN file is not in the same directory as the
- executable file BLAST.EXE.
-
- Solution : Put the BLAST.BIN file in the same directory as the
- executable file. If you deleted it by accident you'll
- have to download the game again and start over.

- -------------------
- | DURING GAMEPLAY |
- -------------------
-
- The keys are as follows:
-
- Left Arrow Move Ship Left
- Right Arrow Move Ship Right
- Up Arrow Move Ship Up
- Down Arrow Move Ship Down
- Space Bar Shoot Basic Laser (Unlimited Use)
- T Shoot Triple Laser (Limited Use)
- N Shoot Nuclear Weapon (Limited Use)
- F1 Help Screen
- F2 Configuration of Game
- F3 Pause Game
- Escape Quit Game
-
- There is information on the top of the screen. The score is written on the
- top-left of the screen. Then the Ship icon tells you how many Ships you have
- left. The icon that looks like a T tells you how many Triple Laser Weapons
- you have left. The icon that looks like a N tells you how many Nuclear
- Weapons you have left.
-
- ---------
- | HINTS |
- ---------
-
- Probe Explorer : An easy to beat enemy because the only way they can
- destroy you is if you collide with them.
-
- Pod Traveler : An easy to beat enemy because the only way they can
- destroy you is if you collide with them.
-
- Drone Fighter : A moderately hard enemy to beat because of their size
- and because they can shoot you.
-
- StarShip Fighter : The hardest enemy to beat because of their speed
- and because they shoot at you the most out of all
- the enemies.
-
- Try to stay far enough away from the fighters because they can cluster
- around you and collide with you or destroy you when they shoot.
-
- Remember you have a longer laser than any of your enemies so use that
- to your advantage. Shoot the Enemies from a distance - the closer you are,
- the more likely you are to be shot yourself.
-
- You might consider destroying other ships by colliding into them
- as a way to destroy enemies. It may work for awhile but remember you
- only have a limited number of Ships.
-
- Use nuclear weapons wisely. You only have a limited number of them so use
- them on harder enemies.
-

- | SUGGESTIONS FOR CONFIGURATION |
- ---------------------------------
-
- The program is automatically set up for a PENTIUM; however, I have made the
- program adjustable to your computer. If you want to play this on a 386 or
- 486 you need to reconfigure this one time and it will be saved on your
- computer.
-
- After starting the program you are given options to choose from :
-
- Start Game
- Game Help/Info
- Configure Game <-----
- High Scores
- Game Credits
- Exit
-
- Go to Configure Game:
-
- For the "Computer Speed" I suggest the following Numbers
- for your Computer's Processor
-
- 386 - 0
- 486 - 3
- Pentium - 6
-
- 0 - Slow Computer ... 9 - Very Fast Computer
-
