- Congratulations on your acqusition of Gazebo Chess!
-
- The goal of this README is to help you get started as quickly
- as possible. To do this you need to install and then to run
- the programs.
-
- INSTALLATION
-
- You need to be running Windows and place your diskette in
- the drive and run the SETUP.EXE program contained on the diskette.
- For the purposes of the instructions, we will assume the diskette
- drive is A:.
-
- In default Windows inside default Program manager this is done
- by selecting:
-
- File / Run / A:\SETUP.EXE
-
- If you have customized menus or a different program manager,
- please just run the SETUP.EXE program from the diskette drive.
-
- The installation will start. The installer will check if you
- have enough disk space and setup a number of defaults for:
-
- default disk drive
- default directory
-
- Feel free to change these.
-
- Then click OK to perform the installation, automatically.
-
- INSTALLATION DEFAULTS
-
- The installation defaults, by the way, are:
-
- installation to C: drive
- installation to C:\GAZEBO directory
-
- Unless you have a good reason to change these, leave them as-is
-
- POST-INSTALLATION
-
- The installation takes only a minute or two. When it is done,
- a Windows group folder will be displayed showing the icons
- in the distribution.
-
- Presently these consist of:
-
- Gazebo Chess for Windows
-
- Gazebo Chess for DOS
-
- Both will run under Windows, however, for convenience.
-
- GETTING HELP
-
- Both programs have built-in help. In the Windows version,
- help is available under the HELP menu. This is standard
- windows help.
-
- In the DOS version, use the "help" command.
-
- MOVING PIECES
-
- You may use the mouse or the arrow keys to move your pieces
- in the Windows version. This involves just locating the piece
- with the mouse or moving the lightly flashing square with the
- arrow keys to hover over the piece-to-move.
-
- Then either press the left-mouse-button or press the ENTER key
- (corresponding to whether you are using the mouse or the keyboard
- for piece movement). Then repeat the process with the square
- to which you want to move the piece.
-
- UPGRADES
-
- Regular upgrades are available for a fraction of the cost of
- your original purchase. Please contact for further details:

- FINAL THOUGHTS
-
- You will find that the Windows program is essentially
- for "show" and is best for new players and children or
- merely for a quick non-serious game.
-
- You will also find that the DOS program is a rather
- serious opponent of significant strength.
-
- We hope you enjoy Gazebo. Tell a friend and don't forget to
- register if you got this via shareware -- the registration
- fee is $30. Your support by registering gets you:
-
- - the latest versions of both programs which
- are much more recent than the ones you now have
-
- - telephone and E-mail support via the above
- routes. We will ask you first if you are registered
- before providing technical assistance.
-
- - our ear. We listen to our registered users with
- extra attention.
