  3. This is the README.TXT file for Chess Captor 1.20,
  4. a product designed specifically for creating chess 
  5. diagrams on the fly under Windows 95.

  8. DOCUMENTATION
  9. -----------------------
  10. Chess Captor comes with its own help file. It is not 
  11. very difficult to work with Chess Captor. You can run 
  12. the help file independently from Chess Captor if you 
  13. want to by double clicking the file "Captor.hlp"
  14. in Windows Explorer.
  15.  
  16. You can access online help through the Contents window 
  17. where the information is organized into books and 
  18. chapters, or go directly to the Index window to look 
  19. for specific references and keywords to help you locate 
  20. the information that you are looking for.
  21.  
  22. For aditional information and possible updates on Chess

  29. INSTALLING CHESS CAPTOR
  30. --------------------------------------
  31. Chess Captor is very easy to install. Chess Captor comes 
  32. in two versions:
  33. - CCAP120S.ZIP and
  34. - CCAP120B.ZIP
  35.  
  36. IF YOU ARE NEW TO CHESS CAPTOR
  37.   In this case you should download (have downloaded) 
  38.   CCAP120S.ZIP because file this contains the setup 
  39.   program that will install the ocx and dlls needed.
  40.  
  41.   Once you have downloaded CCAP120S.ZIP, unzip the 
  42.   files contained in CCAP120S.ZIP into a temporary 
  43.   directory. Double click the file setup.exe in 
  44.   Windows Explorer or select start on the taskbar 
  45.   and click on "Run...". In the dialog box that 
  46.   appears typ the path to the setup.exe file.
  47.  
  48.   Setup will now prompt you to select a directory where 
  49.   you would like to install Chess Captor. The default 
  50.   destination is to \program files\ChessCaptor. Setup 
  51.   will create a shortcut for Chess Captor on your task 
  52.   bar.

  54.   Once you have succesfully installed Chess Captor it is 
  55.   safe to delete all the files you unzipped into the 
  56.   temporary directory.
  57.  
  58. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE VERSION 1.10
  59.   You can upgrade to version 1.20 by unzipping all files 
  60.   contained in CCAP120B.ZIP into the directory where Chess 
  61.   Captor 1.10 resides. Select yes when asked to 
  62.   replace/overwrite existing files.
  63.  
  64. IF YOU ALREADY HAVE VERSION 1.0x
  65.   If you have any of the versions 1.00, 1.01 or 1.02 on 
  66.   your computer it is advisable to uninstall that version 
  67.   first. You can these versions as follows:
  68.  
  69.   Click Start on the taskbar on select Control Panel. In 
  70.   the Control panel window double click the icon named 
  71.   "Add-Remove Programs". Another windows will appear 
  72.   containing a list with names of programs. If you see 
  73.   Chess Captor listed then double click on Chess Captor. 
  74.   That's it.

  76.   If you do not see "Chess Captor" written in the list 
  77.   but do have Chess Captor on your system you can just 
  78.   delete the old Chess Captor files. They are:
  79.   * camra2.wav
  80.   * Chess Captor.rio
  81.   * Chess Captor.hlp
  82.   * Chess Captor.cnt
  83.   * Chess Captor.gid
  84.   * Chess Captor.exe
  85.   * Chess Captor.ini
  86.   * hit.wav
  87.   * license.txt
  88.   * readme.txt
  89.   * register.rtf
  90.   * sfit2.wav
  91.   * wow.wav

  93.   Plus the following files if they exist:
  94.   * Chess Captor.ftg
  95.   * Chess Captor.fts
  96.  
  97.   Now please follow the steps described in "IF YOU ARE 
  98.   NEW TO CHESS CAPTOR".

  101. REGISTRATION
  102. -------------------
  103. Chess Captor is not free software. It is released as 
  104. shareware, which provides the opportunity for the 
  105. program to be evaluated before it is purchased.
  106.  
  107. I hope that when you try Chess Captor you will like it 
  108. so much that you will want to register it.
  109.  
  110. Complete information on how to register Chess Captor is 
  111. included in the REGISTER.RTF file. You can view and 
  112. print the file from most text editors such as Wordpad or 
  113. MS Word.

  116. TROUBLESHOOTING
  117. --------------------------
  118. If you are having troubles starting Chess Captor and get 
  119. messages stating that windows cannot find certain dlls 
  120. then please read the following.
  121.  
  122. Chess Captor (Setup version) 'ships' without the 
  123. following dlls although it needs them all:
  124. - msvcrt20.dll
  125. - msvcrt40.dll
  126. - mfc40.dll
  127. - vb40032.dll
  128.  
  129. These dlls were excluded because in most cases they 
  130. are already on your hard disk and because their file size 
  131. is quite large. If you need any of these dlls you can get 
  132. them on the Chess Captor's Home Page at:

  157. UNINSTALLING CHESS CAPTOR 1.20
  158. ------------------------------------------
  159. Uninstalling Chess Captor 1.10 can be done as follows:
  160. - click on start on the task bar
  161. - select "settings"
  162. - click on "control panel"
  163. - double click the icon "Add-Remove Programs"
  164. - in the "Add-Remove Programs Properties" window, locate
  165.   the entry "Chess Captor 1.20" (or Chess Captor 1.10 if 
  166.   you did not install version 1.20, but upgraded to it), 
  167.   click it and press the "Add/Remove" button.
