  22. Ghost Explorer is a Windows 95 and NT program, looking similar to Windows
  23. Explorer, which can open a GHOST image file and restore individual files
  24. or entire directory structures from it. It can also launch GHOST in batch
  25. mode to create an image file, using Windows dialog boxes to prompt for the
  26. disk and partition to dump.
  27.  
  28. GHOST version 4.0a, and beyond, creates an index for FAT partitions in the
  29. image file as it works which allows Ghost Explorer to create a display of
  30. files very quickly. Image files created by earlier versions of GHOST can
  31. still be viewed with Ghost Explorer, but there is a possibly lengthy delay
  32. while Ghost Explorer reads through the image file to build an index. A future
  33. version of Ghost will create an index for NTFS partitions as well. Ghost
  34. Explorer creates external index files for NTFS partitions the first time
  35. it reads the image file.

  37. Ghost Explorer Abilities:
  38. - View any image file created by Ghost v3 or later.
  39.   Only FAT and NTFS partitions will show files.
  40. - View GHOST v4.0 and above image files quickly. Previous GHOST image 
  41.   files are very slow.
  42. - Restore either whole directory structures or individual files.
  43. - Select several files at once.
  44. - Sort your view. In details view, click on a column heading to sort 
  45.   by that column. Click again to reverse the sort.
  46. - A GHOST image file can be dropped on Ghost Explorer for display.

  49.   2. What's new in this release
  50. ======================================================================

  52.  1. Support added for first FAT partition in an image with no partition
  53.     index. This applies to image files made with Ghost 4.1b.
  54.  
  55.  2. Handle files made with -IA (Image All) switch gracefully. We cannot
  56.     manipulate these files.
  57.  
  58.  3. A menu now pops up when a file is right clicked in the File pane.
  59.  
  60.  4. Files can be launched using the Windows application registered for 
  61.     the file type from within Ghost Explorer by double-clicking
  62.     them. A stand alone executable file within an image file may be run
  63.     only when it does not require access to any other files inside the 
  64.    image file to run successfully.

  66.  5. Support for deleting files (but not directories) within FAT images 
  67.     added. It will only work with image files created with Ghost 5.1c
  68.     or above.
  69.  
  70.  6. Support for spanned image files. Use -split if Explorer reports 
  71.     EOF errors. This is necessary on files created with Ghost 4.1b.

  73.  7. Unknown MFT record error fixed (NTFS partitions)

  75.  8. Report on any problems (e.g. disk full) when restoring files
  76.  
  77.  9. Fixed the restoration of an entire partition. The directory is 
  78.     now not made system/hidden.

  80. 10. Display double-byte filenames correctly (on a machine with suitable
  81.     fonts). This requires the image to have been made by Ghost 5.1c or 
  82.     later. The switch -ignoreindex can be used for earlier image files.

  84. 11. A problem with non-resident attributes on NTFS partitions fixed.
