- Hello unknown programmer !
-
- Since you didn't state if your utility "FID 1.00" is a commercial or
- Public Domain program (looks like PD of coz', but not a single word about
- copying..) i wanna ask you if i may include your Dutch FileID_lib.catalog
- with future FileID.library releases. I was pleased if I could do so.
- In this case, please tell me if you want to have your real name, your
- scene handle or both added to the "Credits" section of my library
- documentations.
-
- If i use your locale catalog, there are three points you should note:
-
- 1. I detected some quirks:
-
- a) Your translations are a bit incomplete. Sometimes, a word is translated
- to Dutch ("amimation"), sometimes it's still english. You should
- fix this.
- By the way: reading your catalog strings after some dope consumption
- brought me the wisdom about that your language is funny. :^)
-
- b) Your catalog contains some double descriptions. If you are using
- CatComp, let me tell you that this program compares the original
- strings with the translation strings, and if both are the same, the
- whole catalog string gets skipped and not added to the catalog file.
- This is okay since if GetCatalogStr() can't find a string, the function
- returns the english string passed to it by the caller (FileID.library).
- So do NOT leave the translation text lines in the ".ct" file unfilled;
- use the original english string instead ! The FileID library archive
- now contains an english default catalog translation table; no need to
- copy the strings anymore. Sorry about forgetting to add this file to
- previous releases..
-
- Another idea was not to use CatComp (e.g., because it's CLI only).
- If you're using another catalog tool, read it's documentation and
- look about how to get it skipping equal strings.
-
- If you fix this, your Dutch catalog no longer contains unchanged
- english strings and gets much smaller then. No need to say that
- GetCatalogStr() calls on smaller catalogs get exectued faster.
-
- c) The catalog version number should be the same as the library
- version.
-
- 2. For future library releases, i'd like you to do new Dutch library
- catalogs just before the library gets released, so that my FileID archive
- always contains the newest Dutch locale catalog. I would supply the
- library catalog sources to you (in irregular intervals) before anybody
- else gets it. You would have to translate the new catalog strings (not
- much work for a single update) in a few days, so that the library update
- gets always released as soon as possible.
-
- 3. It was good if i could include your catalog source, too, because other
- people are also interested in your work, and because if you stop your
- catalog development in future, i may find another guy continuing the
- catalog then.
-
- You may send me your catalog source by putting it into your next update.
- My net address is invalid for a few weeks. After this time, you may pass
- me some mail via InterNet. I don't like to call your boards you wrote from,
- because they are too far away for my money bag and perhaps i don't get
- any "axxezz" because of the "elite" suffix in your BBS adds..
- Have you got an InterNet address ?
-
- If you don't want your catalog to get added to the library archive, forget
- the rest you read before and burn in hell. :^)
