  10. It is a detailed set of train track segments
  11. <P>
  12. This font is a virtual railroad for your printer.  You will need a 
  13. high resolution printer to truly appreciate this font.  The screen 
  14. image isn't the best, but load up the PostScript font and print out a 
  15. copy of "TRKS_MAP.WRI" to see all the living detail in full heart 
  16. stopping color (well, I get carried away, but you get the idea).  Now 
  17. you can add the finest train yards to your documents.
  18. <P>
  19. There are two sets of tracks, with ties (for the formal 
  20. railroader) and with out (for the casual railroader).  Almost 
  21. everybody who has seen this font has said:

  25.     - Hey, what about buildings?

  27. To which I say, all in due time.  Unfortunately, when I figured 
  28. out the geometry for the fonts, I forgot to make the length to width 
  29. ratio an integer.  WOOPS!  I don't want to go back and do all of those 
  30. ties again (the frogs were the worst).  So, one of these days I will 
  31. either hack some vertical segments together or I will start from 
  32. scratch and do it right.  As for roadways, I wanted to add those 
  33. before this release, but I ran out of time.  So, those will come with 
  34. the next version.  Same story for the buildings.  In the mean time, 
  35. Enjoy! (can't wait to see the snarls you make out of this (grin))

  56. NOW FOR THE "ASKING FOR MONEY" BIT, AKA, THIS IS SHAREWARE:
  57. <P>    You are free to use (play with, throw at the cat, etc.) this font 
  58. for one week after receiving it.  If you like it and decide to keep it, 
  59. you should send a US $10 "shareware" fee to myself at the address 
  60. below (for international users, see item 4 in "The Fine Print").  Please 
  61. include a brief note describing where you got this font, what you like 
  62. about it, and what you would like to see in the future.
  63. <P>    If you just have to have the full collection of my train fonts 
  64. (see "Product Ad"), send a couple of FORMATTED 3.5" HD disks (Two 
  65. HD for Mac, or One HD for IBM recommended) and a SELF ADDRESSED 
  66. STAMPED ENVELOPE to the address below. (I hate to format disks 
  67. and you will be sure to get the right machine, Mac or IBM, this way)
  68. <P>    I do not want to send any of my customers into bankruptcy, if 
  69. you are honestly poor, (i.e., you ain't gonna support the American 
  70. way and my education) please send a post card (the weirder the 
  71. better) describing where you got this font, what you like about it and 
  72. what you would like to see added to it.
  73. <P>THE FINE PRINT:

  75. <LI>Each font or icon package is an individual product.  Thus, if you 
  76. keep Passenger Font and Freight Font, you should pay $20, not $10.
  77. <LI>You may NOT use this font in any publication or any product unless 
  78. you register your copy by sending $10 FOR EACH FONT YOU USE.  Be 
  79. sure to specify which fonts you are registering for.  It is not fair for 
  80. you to make money off of my hard work without paying the 
  81. Shareware fees.
  82. <LI>If you decide to keep several of my shareware products and you are 
  83. only using them for personal applications (or you are using them for 
  84. a struggling NONPROFIT organization promoting railroads), then $10 
  85. a piece can get to be a bit expensive.  Please pay what you think they 
  86. are worth.  I recommend $10 for the first font and $5 for each 
  87. additional font.
  88. <LI>If you do not reside in the US, then getting a check in US$ may be 
  89. difficult for you.  So, I will also accept any interesting widgets, toys, 
  90. books, time tables, postcards or what not.  What's common place to 
  91. you is quite possibly exotic for me.  By the way, I'm a rail fan (hint 
  92. hint hint)
  93. <LI>You may distribute this font for free, however, you may not sell this 
  94. font or include it in any package for sale without the written 
  95. permission of myself, Benn Coifman.  I am very agreeable to CD 
  96. ROM's and shareware packages for sale, however, I do want to retain 
  97. some degree of control over my work.  So, please contact me first.

  103. WHY SHOULD YOU SEND IN THE SHAREWARE FEE?
  104. <P>    Well, I am releasing this font in it's entirety.  I put a lot of hard 
  105. work into this font.  I have also gotten a lot of pleasure from it.  
  106. Ignoring all of the capitalistic angles, your shareware dollar will 
  107. speed up the development of new train fonts and help me afford 
  108. new font tools.  My goal is to at least break even.
  109. <P>    Only 39 people have registered my shareware products since I 
  110. first released them ten months ago.  There are a lot of expenses that 
  111. go into these fonts.  My font editor cost almost $300.  Then there are 
  112. the little expenses like ink cartridges (you wouldn't believe how 
  113. many ink cartridges I go through) and paying for a mail box.  Oy!  
  114. And you want to talk about memory... 40 Meg of hard disk devoted 
  115. to fonts and icon development.
  116. <P>    I would love to purchase the latest version of Illustrator and 
  117. produce more clip art.  I could also use more disk space to keep these 
  118. toys in.

  121. BENEFITS OF PAYING THE SHAREWARE FEE:
  122. <P>    Enough of what shareware fees do for me, what will they do for 
  123. you!?  I will spend less time on school and more time on producing 
  124. shareware.  You will also be entitled to a peek into things to come.  If 
  125. you send a disk (or two) along with your payment, I will give the 
  126. Demo font that includes all of the odd characters that haven't quite 
  127. found a home yet (including a number of steam engines!).  In 
  128. addition, I will rush you out the most recent versions of my fonts 
  129. and icons.  I might even toss in a couple of pre-release fonts.
