- WELCOME TO THE PAGESTREAM 3.0f FREE UPDATE! FEBRUARY 7, 1995
- ==================================================================
-
-
- Choose Macros/View ReadMe.Now to read this from within PageStream3
-
- This is the fifth in a series of free update patches to PageStream3. This
- update implements more features and fixes many problems. The main new
- feature of this release is the implementation of text color, fill and
- stroke attributes. There are other new and implemented features in this
- release, as well as the fixing of many bugs. Text entry and printing
- speed is unchanged in this release. Landscape printing to non-PostScript
- printers will be implemented in the next release.
-
-
- TUTORIAL LESSONS
- ----------------
-
- We recommend not attempting tutorial lessons 2, 3 and 4 at this time
- because a few of the required features are not implemented. Lessons 1 and
- 5 can be done now. Please refer to the manual errata section of the help
- system for last minute manual changes before completing the tutorial
- lessons. We expect that at least lesson 2 if not 3 as well will be
- functional in the next release.
-
- NOTES FOR LESSON 1
- - page 53, #3. The window will remain titled. In this version of
- PageStream3, template windows are titled (but you are prevented from
- accidentally overwriting them).
- NOTES FOR LESSON 5
- - page 94, #1. You must create a new document (the size is unimportant)
- before starting this lesson.
- - page 94, #4. If your text column frame has a gray background after
- changing the color to Yellow, you are in four color mode. After you
- finish #5, you may wish to use Settings/Screen to change to 8 or 16
- color mode.
-
-
- REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT NOTE
- -----------------------------
-
- Documents saved from 3.0f CANNOT be used with previous versions of
- PageStream3. 3.0f CAN load documents created with previous versions.
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0e TO 3.0f
- -------------------------
-
- - Fixed a document loading/saving bug that crept into the release version
- of 3.0e. Documents with groups and drawings could not be loaded or
- saved.
- - Implemented double click to select word and triple click to select
- paragraph.
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0d TO 3.0e
- -------------------------
-
- TEXT:
- - Implemented text color/fill/line attributes.
- - Implemented Reverse and Shadow type styles.
- - Implemented Outline type style for PostScript. Outlined and stroked
- text does not work on screen or to non-PostScript at this time.
- - Note that bitmapped fills are not implemented for text or objects to
- screen or non-PostScript printers at this time.
- - Fixed the disappearing character in linked frames bug!
- - Fixed the tab at the start of a paragraph formatting bug!
- - Fixed the tab in subsequent lines formatting bug!
- - Fixed the blank sample display problem in the Insert Character requester.
- - Fixed the edit style tag problem with text reformatting.
- - Fixed the edit variable problem with text reformatting.
- - Fixed the copy discontinuous text problem. (Copy is now disabled when
- discontinuous text is selected because you shouldn't be able to copy it.)
- - Text frame linking: can now be ended by clicking a second time on the
- same frame or on a blank area of the page.
- - Text frame linking: can now be started by clicking on the overset
- indicator.
- - You can no longer base a style tag on itself, which is clearly illogical.
-
- TEXT IMPORT:
- - Updated Final Writer, Excellence, ProWrite, Word, WordPerfect Amiga,
- WordPerfect 5, and Wordworth filters. Added text code support to the
- WordPerfect filters, removed Line Feed options from inapplicable filters,
- fixed indent problems in some filters, etc.
- - Fixed the tab problems when importing Wordworth files.
- - Fixed the indent problems with importing Wordworth files.
- - Added support for Final Writer release 3 files.
-
- FONTS AND PRINTING:
- - Character mapping problems for PostScript bitmap font (ABF) files. They
- did not map the same as the outline fonts, which caused some confusion.
- - Fixed Auto Ligature (fi & fl) problem with DMF fonts.
- - Fixed DMF character encoding errors (currency printing instead of space,
- etc.)
- - Added support for SEAC in PostScript fonts. Accents characters that did
- not appear in some fonts will now appear.
- - Fixed PostScript Landscape problems. (This will also make envelope
- printing possible.)
- - Fixed enforcer hit problem when adding font directories containing
- TrueType fonts or Gold Disk ATC files to the Font Preferences requester.
- (The PostScript engine thought they were PFM files.)
- - Fixed PostScript printing of CS fonts (Times and Triumvirate) when no
- PPD was selected. (This resulted in an Intellifont 69 error.)
- - Fixed non-PostScript printing problem of disappearing rotated text.
- - Changed HP printer default from manual to cassette.
- - Added more printer models to the Epson printer driver (Panasonic and
- Star models). If you use the Epson driver, you should choose Settings/
- Printing and reselect the Type and Model and then click on Save.
- - Fixed a memory problem with the Epson driver.
- - Changed preferences printing so that formfeeds would not be sent to the
- port directly. (This will solve the page eject problem when using fax
- software.)
- - Stop gadget for printing: it actually works now, albeit not always
- immediately.
- - Fixed non-PostScript printing of Sine and inverse Sine gradient fills.
- - Added standard fax default resolutions to the IFF ILBM printer driver.
- - Improved non-PostScript halftone dither printing.
- - Fixed the PostScript bitmap picture and bitmap fill bit strip problem.
- (A common symptom was a line printing on the right side of a picture.)
- - Fixed DeskJet envelope printing problems. (Note that until Landscape
- printing is implemented for non-PostScript printers, you must create
- your page in the same orientation as your paper. So if the short end of
- the envelope is fed into the printer, you must create the envelope in
- PageStream with the same orientation.)
-
- GRAPHICS:
- - Radial fills are now implemented to screen and non-PostScript. (They were
- already implemented to PostScript.)
- - Fixed the crash problem when resizing gradient filled objects to a very
- small size.
- - Fixed pasting of bitmap pictures copied to the clipboard from BME.
-
- GRAPHIC IMPORT/EXPORT:
- - Added support for 2 color PCX version 2 files that have both colors set
- to the same value. The filter will set the second color to the opposite
- of the first.
- - Fixed line cap problem with Art Expression EPS import.
- - Fixed problems loading some Freehand3 EPS files. Note that newer Freehand
- files are not supported by the current filter.
-
- DOCUMENT LOADING/SAVING:
- - Fixed the PageStream3 IFF DOC page spread loading problem.
- - Fixed the ProPage loading picture offset problem.
-
- NEW FEATURES:
- - You can now do math in text gadgets in PageStream3. For example, if a
- box's left coordinate is 8.125" and you want to move it right by 0.333"
- but can't add that in your head, just enter the following into the Edit
- palette's appropriate text gadget: 8.125"+0.333. When youpress Tab or
- Return, the expression will be evaluated and its sum of 8.458" will
- appear in the text gadget. The following math operators are supported:
- + add; - subtract; * multiply; / divide; () parenthetical expressions.
- Additionally, `pi' (3.1416...) may be entered.
- - Added two new popup gadgets to the Edit palette Character view for type
- size and width. This makes changing the type size more convenient.
- - Added more preset type sizes and widths to the Font requester scrolling
- lists.
- - Added four new default page sizes for envelopes and compact discs to
- the New Document page size popup gadget. If you have a page size default
- request, let us know.
- - For large screens only (900-1000 pixels wide): Added Insert Date and
- Insert Time icons to the toolbar. If your document window is not wide
- enough, you will not be able to see these icons; they are just a bonus
- for those with large screens.
-
- MISCELLANEOUS:
- - Fixed the delete page crashing problem.
- - Fixed the move page crashing problem.
- - Pasting now updates the document changed status.
- - Page palette no longer shows page icons when all documents are closed.
- - Fixed the Save then Quit bug which quit without saving.
- - You can no longer delete the default master page, which should never have
- been possible.
- - The Toolbox and Edit palette icons in the toolbar will now be depressed
- when the Toolbox and Edit palette are open. (ie, when their equivalent
- menu commands are checkmarked.)
- - Added more options to the help system contents, and extended the
- recommended reading list.
- - Documented PageLiner's startup options in the help system.
- - Changed the way unnamed tasks are unnamed. (If you don't use virtual
- memory, this is irrelevant to you. If you do, you probably still don't
- care. :)
-
- SEND TO EDITOR AND MACRO SCRIPTS:
- - Fixed page number variable, and style tag ':', and greater than '>'
- problems when sending text to an editor.
- - Improved send text to editor scripts. If text is selected, only the
- selected text will be sent to the editor now. If text is not selected,
- the entire article will be sent as before.
- - New "Mail Merge" script. See the help system for more information.
- - New "Print Font Specimens" (FontSpec.rexx) script. This will print a font
- specimen sheet for each font installed in PageStream. (One font per
- sheet. An option to print multiple fonts on a sheet will come later.)
- - New "Place Graphic At" (PlaceGraphicAt.rexx) script. This will import
- graphics in a similar fashion to PageStream2.2. Shift drag to maintain
- aspect ratio is supported.
- - Open Template macro: added avery label size 7664 (European 3.5" disk
- labels). Fixed measurement system problems for European label sizes.
-
- MACRO COMMANDS:
- - New commands: getfontfamilies, getfontstyles, getregion.
- - Renamed appendstyletag to appendstyletags, and savestyletag to
- savestyletags.
- - Documented clearstyletag command.
- - Corrected documentation for setvariablename and setvariablevalue.
-
- NOTES:
- - Vertical text wrap offsets were implemented in 3.0d, contrary to its
- readme file. All text wrap options, but not fencing (irregular bitmap
- picture text wrap) are now implemented.
-
- BME:
- - Fixed a Color Palette bug. If the palette had been opened and closed,
- and then the picture was closed, a crash could occur if the palette was
- reopened while no pictures were open.
- - Fixed an Eye Dropper tool bug that allowed it to be used outside of the
- picture.
- - Fixed a low memory crash problem.
- - Fixed a bug that caused the undo levels to be 1 less than the number in
- the undo level gadget in the General Preferences requester.
- - Loading a Black & White picture now consumes less memory.
-
- PAGELINER:
- - Now displays an alert if saving a file was unsuccessful in all cases.
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0c TO 3.0d
- -------------------------
-
- FONTS:
- - Triumvirate Oblique and Bold Oblique can now be used.
- - Now supports more PFM file variants.
-
- TEXT:
- - Text entry speed has been increased. Text entry speed is still dependent
- on the length of the article. Typing on the first line is not much faster
- than 3.0c, but typing on the thirtieth line of an article is now twice as
- fast as 3.0c.
- - The screen will now scroll as you type to keep the cursor visible.
- - Implemented double click to end text frame linking. At this time you must
- double click anywhere to end linking. You can't single click a second
- time on the last linked frame to end linking yet.
- - Holding down a Shift key while choosing Type/Manual Kern will remove all
- manual kerning from the selected text. If you import a PageStream1 or 2
- document that contained batch kerned text, you should use this to remove
- the batch kerning (which was really manual kerning) and then apply Auto
- Kerning instead.
- - Fixed leading problems on the first line without text.
- - Fixed all known tab highlighting problems.
- - Fixed manual kerning problems.
- - Fixed disappearing text problem with rotated frameless text objects.
- - Discontinuous selection: Ctrl for discontinous text selection works again.
- - Text codes: no longer converts accented characters to codes if they're
- present in the selected character set. (Makes non-English text more
- readable with SendToEditor in PageLiner.)
- - Text codes: fixed blackslash problem.
-
- TEXT IMPORT/EXPORT:
- - Fixed WordPerfect 4.1 linefeed problem. (Words were joined without spaces.)
- - Fixed ProWrite margins import problem.
-
- GRAPHICS:
- - Faster display of unrotated pictures.
- - Resizing objects now snaps to grid properly.
- - Resizing drawings, groups, etc, now have correct Edit palette values.
- - Implemented gradient fills at all angles, and all taper types, on screen
- and to non-PostScript (already was done for PostScript).
- - Improved wide curve display and printing to non-PostScript.
- - Implemented all Text Wrap modes and horizontal offsets. Vertical offsets
- are not implemented yet.
-
- GRAPHIC IMPORT/EXPORT:
- - Placing a picture or drawing will now show the rotation and slant values
- in the Edit palette (they were initially blank in 3.0c).
- - Fixed all known ProDraw Clip import stroke weight and fill problems.
- - Fixed problems importing EPS files with an EOF.
- - Fixed line weight problems for Art Expression EPS import.
-
- DOCUMENT LOADING/SAVING:
- - Fixed ProPage loading picture scale problem.
-
- PRINTING:
- (some of these changes were made in printer drivers uploaded after 3.0c,
- but before 3.0d. The improved drivers are also included with 3.0d.)
- - Fixed all known Preference printing crash problems. (Finally!)
- - Implemented the print progress meter. (The meter advances after rendering
- (non-PostScript) or sending (PostScript) each object. Non-PostScript
- printing is done in strips, and the meter will not advance while a strip
- is sent to the printer; only when the strip is created.
- - Fixed PostScript printing of DMF fonts.
- - Fixed PostScript printing of spaces in Compugraphic fonts.
- - Fixed PostScript printing of hyphens and other characters.
- - Fixed PostScript printing of special characters on second use of font
- (multiple page problem).
- - Faster printing of unrotated pictures to non-PostScript printers.
- - Added gamma correction for HP color printing. (Makes colors look better.)
- - Improved the color output on HP CMYK Deskjet printers by substituting K
- for CMY when desirable.
- - Fixed Printing Preferences Source option problems for certain HP models.
- - Fixed Fargo.printer driver that was broken in 3.0c.
- - Added HP520, 540 and 560 models to the HP driver list.
- - Fixed a band problem with Floyd-Steinberg dithering.
- - Fixed PostScript tiling problem.
- - Fixed cancelling of printing to disk.
- - PostScript thumbnail printing: now inserts a default scale percentage so
- that you don't accidentally print 100% thumbnails. Correct page numbers
- are now printed with crop and reg marks for thumbnails.
- - Non-PostScript thumbnail printing is now implemented. Note that the
- fancy thumbnail extras for PostScript such as page borders and numbers
- are not printed to non-PostScript at this time.
- - Fixed problems when printing multiple ranges using a space instead of a
- comma.
-
- PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
- - Now loads text wrap options correctly. (Some text wrap options, including
- offsets, are not implemented in 3.0d so they may not display correctly.)
- - Fixed bug in loading characters 1 to 31 (the font name was inserted into
- the text instead of the character).
-
- TUTORIALS:
- - SetLessonDefaults now sets the default window position to be above the
- Edit palette, as shown in the tutorial lesson screenshots in the manual.
-
- MISCELLANEOUS:
- - Fixed enforcer hit problems when opening a window, typing, highlighting
- text, and creating a text frame.
- - Worked around conflict with CBE, PowerSnap and other clipboard utilities.
- (Program locked up on first Copy after a Paste.) Not really a bug fix,
- but the conflict has been avoided.
- - Fixed all known Undo crash problems.
- - Fixed Paste command to paste objects in the center of the window rather
- than the objects' original position. (This was supposed to be done in
- 3.0c but didn't make it into that release.) Note: Hold down Shift while
- choosing Paste to paste in the objects' original position.
- - Changed the default document window height to be 32 pixels from the
- bottom of the screen, to leave room for the Edit palette. (If you have
- already chosen Settings/Snapshot Display, this will not affect you.)
- - Improved visual mouse position accuracy at high magnifications.
- - Drawing with grid snap on will now display Edit palette coordinates in
- multiples of the grid.
- - Enlarged the large toolboxes to be 50 percent larger than the small
- toolboxes. The icons are still the same size. (This may change in the
- future.)
- - Added two new optional PageStream3.prefs entries: COPYFTXT TRUE|FALSE and
- COPYDR2D TRUE|FALSE. The default for both is true. Use these to stop
- PageStream3 from copying IFF FTXT and/or IFF DR2D to the clipboard when
- copying text and graphics, respectively. Turning off IFF DR2D is not a
- big deal---you will only lose clipboard compatability with TypeSmith and
- the handful of other programs that support DR2D in the clipboard. If you
- don't need this compatibility, turn IFF DR2D off to cut object copying
- times. (You will still be able to paste and import IFF DR2D, but you will
- no longer copy the redundant data.) Turning off IFF FTXT is not
- recommended, because you will lose compatibility with all other programs
- that support text in the clipboard. ie: PageLiner, Turbotext, Final
- Writer, etc.
- - Fixed Settings/Toolbox and Edit Palette checkmarks being out of synch
- when starting PageStream.
- - The length of the rulers in Set Guides should now equal the size of the
- page.
- - Fixed the problem with Object/Edit for a group's original width/height.
-
- MACRO SCRIPTS:
- - Automatic Text Frame macro is now fully implemented.
- - Send to BME now maintains text wrap attributes.
- - Fixed Tech Report macro when Company registration was not set, and when
- names were short.
- - Fixed enforcer hit during Open Template macro.
- - Added Avery 2160 label size for Open Template macro.
-
- MACRO COMMANDS:
- - Recording a macro that executes an ARexx script stored in "Ram Disk:"
- will now work. (The space in "Ram Disk:" was causing a problem.)
- - New commands: removepairkern
- - Improved commands: setpairkern, getcursor, settextrouting, settoolmode
-
- NOTES:
- - Adding lots of fonts no longer slows down text entry speed. (As of v3.0c.)
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0b TO 3.0c
- -------------------------
-
- PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
- - Expanded PageStream2.fontlist file that recognizes more PD fonts.
- - Fixed the Macros/Analyze FONTLISTv2 macro which did not work at all.
- - Fixed problems with hanging outdents not being properly imported.
-
- IMPORT/EXPORT:
- - Improved ASCII import filter quote conversion.
- - Fixed ProDraw Clip import line weight problems.
- - Implemented PageStream text code engine. Send to Editor for text now
- works as advertised.
-
- TEXT:
- - Text entry speed has been further increased. Typing text in a new frame
- is twice as fast as 3.0b if the Edit palette is open, and 50% faster if
- the Edit palette is closed. Having text attribute palettes no longer
- slows down typing so text entry and editing speed is identical with the
- Edit palette open and closed now.
- - Sped up rasterizing PostScript fonts. (The first time you use a PostScript
- font at outline size, it will appear twice as fast as in 3.0b.)
- - Fixed the big text object bug. (Create a text object, delete it, create
- another, crash.)
- - Obliqued PostScript fonts (ones that have the oblique bit set in the
- font, such as most Futura and Uniform fonts) are now supported. (This
- was added in the final version of the 3.0b update, in PS.font 1.0d.)
- - Fixed Paragraph Format, Right Indent.
- - Improved PostScript and Soft-Logik bitmap screen font scaling. (It was
- not as good as v2.2 before, now it's better.)
- - Monospaced tracking is now implemented.
- - Changed default tab spacing to 0.333" as indicated in the manual.
- - Adding style tags will now update the palette lists.
- - Changed the default background of columns created with Create Columns
- from transparent to opaque to make it the same as previous versions of
- PageStream. (Users were confused by the grid and guides showing through
- the column frames.)
- - Added support for PFM files as mentioned on page 14 of the manual. (Mac
- Type 1 support is not done yet.) If you have a font with both AFM and
- PFM files, you should generally use the PFM because it is smaller. (You
- can delete the AFM if you wish.)
-
- PRINTING:
- - Adding font re-encoding for PostScript printing. (In layman's terms, this
- means that non-standard characters should now print. If you find characters
- which still don't print, report the font type, font name and character
- to us for testing.)
- - Changed the offsets for the HP, Epson and Fargo drivers. Offsets of 0,0
- should now be suitable for most people. You MUST change your offsets in
- the Printing Preferences requester or else your printing will be double
- offset.
- - Fixed problems printing backslash characters to PostScript.
- - Made DMF fonts with spaces in their names print to PostScript. (ie,
- Roman Bookface and West Side.)
- - Fixed the other A4 page size problem in the HP.printer driver.
- - Fixed potential crash problems with the Preference.printer driver.
- - Added more supported printer models to the Epson.printer driver.
- - Removed the 'M' printers from the HP driver model list. If you have a HP4M
- 4ML, 4MP..., you should use the PostScript driver, not the HP driver. If
- for some reason you wish to print non-PostScript, use the corresponding
- HP4, 4L, 4P... driver. (These were removed to avoid confusion.)
- - Stop gadget during printing is now implemented, but will not stop printing
- until after the current object. (Just like 2.2.) Note that the progress
- meter is not implemented yet.
-
- MACROS & AREXX:
- - New commands: openbusyrequester, setbusyrequester, getbusyrequester,
- closebusyrequester. (Look at the improved TechReport.REXX script for an
- example of correct usage.)
- - getcoord macro works again. (This was used by the StickyNote script
- which is why it didn't work in 3.0b.)
- - New parameters for: pasteobject, placegraphic, savedocument.
-
- PAGELINER:
- - If you run it a second time (ie, if you use Send to Editor for text when
- PageLiner is already started), it no longer presents a Shutdown/Cancel
- requester.
- - Modified spell checker to ignore PageStream text codes.
-
- MISC:
- - Save as Template is now implemented.
- - Fixed snap-to-grid problems. Objects should now snap correctly.
- - Fixed Paste command to paste objects in the center of the window rather
- than the objects' original position.
- - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now scroll 10 times as fast instead of 4
- times as fast when the mouse pointer is over the scroll arrow. This
- makes it feel more responsive when you have a large number of fonts.
- - Scrolling popup menu gadgets now do not start to scroll when the mouse
- pointer is over the up or down arrows until you move the mouse at least
- 2 pixels. This prevents the Font popup gadget in the Edit palette from
- scrolling when it first opens.
- - Fixed a problem with Save As in which the internal document name would
- not get changed.
- - BMP filter problems fixed.
- - Fixed some insertion point (cursor) redraw problems.
- - Fixed a memory problem when exporting macros.
- - Changed the weight of hairlines from 0 to 0.3pt as indicated in the
- manual.
- - Fixed screen display and non-PostScript printing of bevel joins.
- - Adding a font path when it already exists will now update the existing
- path.
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0a TO 3.0b
- -------------------------
-
- TEXT:
- - Text entry and formatting is 50% faster in this version.
- - Paragraph Format: Left/First/Right Indent are now implemented.
- - Ctrl C and D special character shortcuts are now implemented.
- - Insert Character works again.
- - Default tab spacing has been implemented.
- - Cut/Copy/Paste in frameless text objects works now.
- - Keyboard shortcuts for moving the insertion point in frameless text
- objects have been implemented.
- - Edit palette arrow gadgets for text size, width, tracking and leading
- can now be used with a Shift key for greater precision.
- - Fixed the Convert Case commands.
- - Pasting a text wrapped object now updates text frames overlapping it.
- - Fixed the displaying of PS or DMF fonts at low magnifications or very
- small sizes on screen which would offset them from their baseline.
- - Fixed Times Bold/Italic reversal on PostScript printers.
- - Fixed ASCII, FTXT, Excellence and Final Writer filters for problems
- caused by converting more than 11 dashes.
- - Double spacing between sentences no longer permits the 2nd space to fall
- at the beginning of a line.
- - Fixed all known problems for printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript.
- - Linked frames on the same page should now update properly.
- - Fixed leading problem when the previous line had a larger point size.
- - Fixed problems with leading options in the Edit palette.
-
- PRINTING:
- - Fixed color HP.printer DeskJet problems.
- - Fixed HP.printer PaintJet problems.
- - New Fargo.printer driver for the Primera wax thermal and dye sublimation
- printer. (This will not work with the Primera Pro.)
- - Improved Epson.printer color printing to decrease saturation.
- - Corrected A4 paper size in HP.printer and Epson.printer.
- - Print requester options will now remain set from one print job to the
- next during the current session.
- - Improved ordered dithering for HP, Epson and IFF ILBM printer drivers.
- - PostScript: error handler is now off as the default. If you have saved
- your settings, you can speed up printing by turning off the error
- handler in Printing Preferences and then saving your settings again.
- - Fixed color PostScript printing of certain pictures.
- - Fixed display and printing of the bold and italic variations of the
- standard 35 fonts, by adding DMF files for these fonts. (This requires
- the PS3B2.LHA archive.)
- - Fixed some problems printing drawings to PostScript.
- - Fixed printing multiple frames on one page to PostScript.
- - Fixed some non-standard character PostScript printing for resident fonts
- and for downloaded Adobe Standard Encoded fonts.
- - Fixed HP.printer printing when the paper size was greater than 8.5x11".
-
- PAGESTREAM2 DOCUMENT LOADING:
- - If you converted 2.2 documents to 3.0 with previous versions of 3.0,
- each article will really be one paragraph. You can fix this by
- positioning the insertion point at the start of each 'paragraph' (new
- line), then pressing Backspace and then Return. Alternatively, if you
- haven't already made a change to the document in 3.0, simply reload the
- 2.2 document into 3.0b to convert it properly.
- - Text was being loaded with Track table set to Normal, which could change
- line breaks. It now loads with Track table set to None.
- - Fixed the problem with PageStream2 text frames having multiple columns
- on loading.
-
- MACROS & AREXX:
- - added the sendtopageliner script.
-
- MISC:
- - Loading a 3.0 document now preserves double-sided master page.
- - PageStream 2.2 documents now load unnamed.
- - Changed AmigaDOS 2.x color allocation to be more stingy with colors.
- - Text frame backgrounds now default to transparent instead of opaque.
- - Settings/Screen: if the Display DPI text gadgets are blank, PageStream
- will use the default resolution for most standard screen modes now. This
- is convenient if you often switch between screens of different standard
- resolutions. If you enter values, it won't switch automatically.
- - Problems with moving drawings containing groups and lines are resolved.
- - Several of the filters have been reduced in size to save memory.
- - Fixed problems with master pages renaming to default.
- - Added a busy pointer when showing font samples.
- - Added the ability to change PageStream3's interface colors. Refer to the
- Screen option in the Interface topic group in the main PageStream3 Help
- screen for more information. You must download the PS3B3.LHA archive to
- get the new version of the help files.
- - The Visual Reference gadgets in the Help system are fixed for all
- versions of AmigaDOS.
-
- BME
- - New Emboss and Sharpen effects have been added! Refer to the help system
- for information. (The new help files are included in the PS3B3.LHA
- archive.)
-
-
- CHANGES FROM 3.0 TO 3.0a
- ------------------------
-
- TEXT:
- - Frameless text objects implemented!
- - Eliminated extra text redraws when applying attributes!
- - Current attribute defaults are now implemented. (You can now place the
- insertion point (cursor), change the font or other attributes, and then
- type, without reverting back to Triumvirate.)
- - Edit palette arrow gadgets now repeat for text features.
- - Changed default alignment from justified to left.
- - Amiga keyboard shortcuts now work.
- - You now get a normal height cursor when you click in a frame.
- - Right indent tab are now done.
- - Stopped text from being displayed outside of its frame.
-
- PRINTING:
- - New custom Epson driver included!
- - HP color variants now supported.
- - Some Canon variants are now supported. Choose the Epson driver from the
- Printing Preferences' Type popup, and choose the Canon model from the
- Model popup. (These Canon printers are similar to Epson printers.)
- - Printing Compugraphic fonts to PostScript now saves the generated PFB

- NOTES:
- - You cannot rotate/slant/twist Compugraphic fonts beyond 50 degrees in
- either direction at this time. (This includes rotating Compugraphic
- fonts in frameless text objects.) Other font formats can be rotated
- without restriction.
- - If you need to force a screen redraw because PageStream didn't properly
- redraw the screen, choose Macros/Refresh Window. This is assigned to F10
- as the default.
-
- KNOWN BUGS:
- - You cannot apply colors to text using the Color Palette.
- - You cannot customize a type style's color/line/fill attributes within a
- style tag.
- - The Line/Fill button in the toolbar cannot be used for text; choose
- Line/Fill from the Type menu instead.
- - Pasting a text frame will result in an object unable to contain text.
- - There are still some cursor-related problems in this version. Clicking
- at the end of a line will place the cursor at the start of the next line,
- although the cursor will appear at the end of the line. Clicking in a
- blank article of linked frames will make the cursor appear in the last
- linked frame. Clicking around a tab may place the cursor on the wrong
- side of the tab. Pressing Return will not make the cursor appear to move
- to the next line, although it really will be there. These problems will
- be fixed in an upcoming update.
- - There are some unresolved style tag problems.
- - Resizing rotated objects does not work as expected.
- - Typing past the end of a frame will not advance the cursor to the next
- frame if the next frame is on another page.
-
- We know that typing speed and non-PostScript printing are not as fast as
- everybody would like. We will try to speed these up in the future.
-
- We hope you enjoy using this updated version of PageStream3. We are
- committed to giving you the best possible software for your Amiga
- computer. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for supporting Amiga
- software companies.
