  7. Welcome to PageStream 3.2b! This version is a free patch made available
  8. to users of PageStream3.2 and includes numerious speed improvements,
  9. interface enhancements, and bug fixes. This is the result of over 5 months
  10. of work and we at SoftLogik think you will be impressed. Enjoy!

  15. PS- We have included the borders extension and 5 sample borders to give you
  16. an idea how it works. We hope your as taken with this extension as we
  17. are.

  19. CHANGES FROM 3.2 TO 3.2b
  20. ------------------------
  21. This list only includes changes since January 14th. We still hope to find
  22. the changes log for changes between October and then, but its not looking
  23. good. Sorry! Since there was such a short period of time between 3.2a and
  24. 3.2b, we decided to keep the changes long cumulitive. We have noted what
  25. was new in 3.2b with a * instead of a -.
  26.  
  27. TEXT:
  28. - Filled tabs in frameless text objects can now be used.
  29. - Filled tabs at the start of a line fixed.
  30. - Soft Hyphens imbedded in text will no longer cause hilighting problems.
  31. - PageStream text codes now supports <\h> for the export/import of soft
  32.   hyphens.
  33. - Numerous accented characters added to Find Text ignore accent table.
  34. - Triple clicking (Paragraph Selection) on paragraphs that run off into
  35.   text overflow will now properly hilight without crashing.
  36. - Gradient/Stroked text in the middle of a sentence now works consitantly.
  37. - Styles in multichapter documents are now all forced to the document
  38.   level where they should have been to begin with. Internally PageStream
  39.   supports styles at the chapter level, but the interface doesn't properly
  40.   handle it.
  41. - Adding and deleting variables now cause the document to change. Variables
  42.   with an existing name can no longer be created.
  43. - Inserting text mark no longer crashes.
  44. - Can no longer select non-exisiting characters beyond the end of the list
  45.   of characters in Insert Special
  46. - Custom underline, small caps, superscript, & subscript now can be set
  47.   reliably.
  48. - Fixed several bugs in adding and removing font paths in the
  49.   Font Setup requester.
  50. * Fixed problem with similar text in rotated and unrotated versions showing
  51.   twisted in the unrotated text.
  52. - IFF CTXT: Modified to support future windows version.
  53. - ProWrite: Now supports retain formatting. It always retained the formatting
  54.   before.
  55. - ProWrite: Fixed the setting of type size which often resulted in a point
  56.   size of 0 for imported ProWrite text.
  57. - ProWrite: Color mapping in COLR chunk now supported.
  58. - FinalWriter: Fixed a locked memory handle problem. These don't cause a
  59.   problem but its cleaner this way.
  60. * FinalWriter: Fixed crash when loading tabbed text w/ retain format off.
  61.   Also speed up and cleaned up the code some.
  62. * ProWrite: Fixed color mapping bug.
  63.  
  64. OBJECTS:
  65. - Gradient fills display & print faster and more accurate!
  66. - Dissolving rotated drawings will no longer cause the objects
  67.   to be displaced.
  68. - Drawings are now only selectable by clicking on the visible portion of
  69.   the masked objects.
  70. - Many rotated objects can now be resizing as would be expected. Still some
  71.   trouble with resizing rotated groups & multi-selected objects.
  72. - External pictures now present the external size in Information, not the
  73.   FPO size.
  74. - External pictures now scale properly to fit the frame.
  75. - EPS previews are now clipped by the mask. Mask outline is now shown if no
  76.   preview exists.
  77. - Inverse gradients display properly now.
  78. - Now if you reshape a text frame path, the text will reflow to fill.
  79. - Arrowheads now redraw properly when set or moved.
  80. - Transform will now rotate about the rotation point if set.
  81. * Fixed problem with some drawings at 100% scale.
  82. * Fixed Duplicate/Transform for border objects crashing.
  83. * Borders now show measurements in the edit palette based on current prefs.
  84. * Fixed large gaps that can occur with some border types, and fixed
  85.   small gap at the corners.
  86. * When border tool is selected, edit palette will track the mouse like
  87.   other tools when not drawing.
  88. * Borders should not interact with gradient filled objects now.
  89. * Fixed numerous problems with resizing, reshaping, & cropping objects on
  90.   the pasteboard. Don't know if they all got fixed, but should be.
  91. - IFF ILUS: Complex paths >64k in length (approx. 4,000 segments in length)
  92.   load & save properly now.
  93. - IFF ILUS: Paths now load and save as much as 200% faster now.
  94. - IFF ILUS: Modified to support future windows version.
  95. - IFF DR2D: Objects no longer load stroked when they were not stroked.
  96. * IFF ILBM: Many checks added for illegal ILBM's. Should catch most bad files.
  97. * IFF ILUS: Complex frames and effects paths >64k in length save properly now.
  98. * IFF ILUS: Random problem saving frameless text objects fixed.
  99.  
  100. DOCUMENTS:
  101. - Reports now include fonts & colors used in frameless text objects.
  102. - Reports now ignores fonts & colors used in invisible objects and text.
  103. * Fixed reports for border crashing.
  104. - Loading of styles/colors/variables will better knock out exisiting
  105.   identical styles/colors/variables and will no longer create endless
  106.   duplicate colors, etc.
  107. * Page Palette no longer hangs when setting the chapter length manually.
  108. - IFF DOC: Fixed bug in saving of revisions which could corrupt documents.
  109.   Added code in document loading which should try and fix corrupted
  110.   documents.
  111. - IFF DOC: Column gutters for masterpages now load and save properly.
  112. - IFF DOC: Snap to grid flags now load and save properly.
  113. - IFF DOC: Modified to support future windows version.
  114. - PageStream2: Changed wording of font not found alert.

  116. GENERAL PRINTING:
  117. - Improved stop printing response. Still lacking to non-postscript but
  118.   better none the less.

  120. POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  121. - Spot separations of tinted spot colors now retain the tint.
  122. - Thumbnail printing fixed.
  123. - Fixed problem where if the standard 35 had to be downloaded, they would
  124.   not get reencoded.
  125. - New .general file. For whatever reason, it did not include Courier as
  126.   a built in font.
  127. * Order dependency for Mirror & Negative now read out properly. This should
  128.   fix all problems with mirror/negative not working to some printers.

  130. NON-POSTSCRIPT PRINTING:
  131. - MAJOR SPEED & MEMORY IMPROVEMENT!!! If you print using the halftone or
  132.   ordered dither options using our custom drivers, you should find major
  133.   improvements in the speed and the memory usage without loss of print
  134.   quality! Also, using the new threshold dither option will be even faster,
  135.   but at the cost of some quality when printing color/black shades. This
  136.   speed improvement is not as dramatic with preferences printing and Floyd-
  137.   Steinberg dithering due to the need to continue to calculate large amounts
  138.   of data before postprocessing of the bitmap image.
  139. - HP driver has several driver margins changed to more closely match the
  140.   actual printer margins.
  141. - Rotated CG text to non-square resolutions no longer print with improper
  142.   aspect ratio.
  143.  
  144. INTERFACE:
  145. - Underline, Italic, Shadow, Reverse, Outline, Superscript, Subscript,
  146.   & Small Caps custom previews and Insert Special and Manual Kerngin
  147.   will now show the sample text on a black background when the text is white
  148.   or near white.
  149. - Shift-Clicking on the Underline, Italic, Shadow, Reverse, Outline,
  150.   Superscript, Subscript, & Small Caps buttons in the edit palette will
  151.   allow you to customize them.
  152. - Tip #15 rewritten to include details on our web site and digest. AOL &
  153.   Compuserve references removed since we no longer support those sites.
  154. - Fixed spelling error in Tip #50.
  155. - Toolbar Tool buttons no longer off by 1 tool.
  156. - When a color or style is selected from the Palette, the document will
  157.   now be automatically reactivated (AMIGA only).

  159. SCRIPTING:
  160. - new pref get macro: flag<ON|OFF> = GETAUTOCOLUMNS
  161. - new parameter for TRANSFORM command. [ABOUT x y]
  162. - Fixed data for Avery Label 7664 template.
  163. - Changed mailmerge macro to reset variables to the same format the original
  164.   dummy data was set to using ยป instead of >.
  165. * New Print Font Specimin macro. No idea what it fixed :-)
  166. * Mail Merge macro will no print the entire document, not just the first page.

  171. - TrueType fonts can now be stroked and filled with gradient, and can be
  172.   used with TextFX!
  173. - LaserWriter 8.4 driver can now be used!
  174. - Certain fonts output to non-square resolutions no longer print with
  175.   improper aspect ratio.
  176. - PICT printing to LaserWriter 8.4 fixed.
  177. - Display of EPS with review fixed.

  181. - SoftLogik recommends CanonStudio or Studio II for printing on Canon
  182.   printers. Some Canon models are supported in Epson emulation mode by
  183.   PageStream's custom Epson driver.
