- TroubleShooting for SuperJAM!
- -----------------------------
-
- 1) Turbosounds seem to only come out of one speaker.
-
- This is normal behavior. To maximize the throughput speed for
- Turbosounds SuperJAM! uses only one audio channel.
-
- 2) No sound comes out at all.
-
- 1) Check your band window to make sure the intruments are
- playing what you want them to play (MIDI or Turbosounds).
-
- Turbosounds:
- a) Check your band window to make sure that the volume
- sliders are not all flush to the left and that
- intruments are loaded for each band member. If the
- text next to the speaker icon says "New" then no
- intrument is loaded. See your manual for instructions
- on how to load an intrument.
- b) Check to make sure that the notes you are playing are
- notes that are valid for the turbosound instrument
- you have loaded. See your manual for more info.
- c) Check your cabling. Make sure both audio outputs are
- connected in the back of the Amiga to your monitor or
- other audio output device. Make sure the volume knob
- on your monitor or other audio output device is not
- at minimum.
- d) Make sure your audio hardware works. A fairly good test
- is the "Say" program that comes with WorkBench in the
- Utilities drawer.
-
- MIDI:
- a) Check the MIDI channel numbers and patch numbers to make
- sure that your synthesizer recognizes them.
- b) Make sure that the volume sliders are not all flush
- to the left. Make sure that your MIDI cables are
- connected properly and that your keyboard or sound module
- is connected properly to speakers.
- c) Make sure your MIDI hardware is working correctly by using
- a sequencer or other MIDI based program.
-
- 3) The quality of the Turbosounds seems very poor.
-
- On low memory or 68000 based computers Turbosounds default to
- a very low sample rate in order to be able to play enough sounds
- at once. There are three sample rate settings in SuperJAM!, Low,
- Medium, and High. You might try experimenting with higher sample
- rates but remember that higher sample rates eat up both memory
- and processor time. MIDI is highly recommended for the highest
- sound output quality.
-
- 4) I do not see my synthesizer listed as supported in the Defaults
- drawer. Can SuperJAM! support my synth?
-
- SuperJAM! can support any MIDI synthesizer. SuperJAM! uses only
- Program Change messages to change instruments, not any machine
- specific sound formats. The names listed in the default patches
- are the default settings for the machine and may be edited as
- desired.
-
- 5) My default setup in SuperJAM! does not automatically load when I
- use the SuperJAM! accessory in Bars&Pipes Professional.
-
- To save your default settings from within Bars&Pipes Professional
- you must load in the styles and the keyboard settings that you want
- and then save a song from the B&P Pro window and name it "New".
- Whenever B&P Pro loads or "New" is selected from the menu, B&P Pro
- will load in the default settings for SuperJAM! and any other tools
- and accessories you may have loaded.
-
- 6) While in Bars&Pipe Pro, changing the tempo in any of the SuperJAM!
- windows does not seem to work.
-
- This is actually a deficiency in Bars&Pipes Pro version 1.0c and
- below. Future versions of Bars&Pipes Pro will correct this. In
- the meantime the tempo may only be changed from the Bars&Pipes
- Pro Transport window or via a Tempo Map.
-
- 7) I have my track set up the way I like in Bars&Pipes Professional
- and SuperJAM! keep overwriting the patch and volume. Is there
- any way to prevent this?
-
- By default, the output tools for the SuperJAM! Accessory output
- the patch change and volume at the beginning of each section. By
- double-clicking on the tool icon you get a window with three
- options:
-
- Note On/Off enables/disables output of notes
- Patch enables/disables output of patch changes
- Volume enables/disables output of volume info
-
-
- 8) What is the best way to upgrade my system to enhance the
- performance of SuperJAM!?
-
- 1) Use MIDI for output. This will increase the quality and
- complexity of the SuperJAM!'s output and reduce the memory
- overhead due to Turbosounds loaded into memory.
- 2) Increase the amount of RAM in your computer. Two megabytes of
- RAM (3 if you plan to use Bars&Pipes Pro with the SuperJAM!
- accessory) should be more than enough for even the most complex
- songs.
- 3) Upgrade your processor to a 68020 or better. Even a faster
- 68000 such as some third parties are now offering can
- dramatically increase overall system performance, especially
- when using TurboSounds.
- 4) A hard disk, while it has nothing to so with system
- performance, will definitely make your life much easier.
-
- 9) Are there planned upgrades for SuperJAM!?
-
- That is up to you. No program is perfect and your suggestions on
- how we can improve SuperJAM! are greatly appreciated. At this
- time we do plan to publish additional style disks.
