- ConvertPrefs
- ============
-
- This little program may be needed if you have upgraded from a version of
- ReqChange earlier than 3.7 (that is, 3.0 to 3.6). In version 3.7 I changed
- the format of the preferences files (to make future improvements easier),
- and when I did that, I decided to not support the old file format in
- ReqChange (actually in reqchange.library).
-
- To save you some work, I wrote this little program that (hopefully ;) will
- convert preferences files in the old format to files in the new format. The
- intended way to use this program is like this:
-
- 1) Install the new version of ReqChange and restart your computer (in
- order to activate the new version of ReqChange). The new version
- will not be able to read your preferences files, and will use the
- default settings.
-
- 2) Now run the conversion program. It will read the preferences files
- from their permanent storage (in "EnvArc:ReqChange/") and write the
- result to their temporary storage (in "Env:ReqChange/").
-
- 3) Start the preferences editor, and inspect the result. Hopefully
- things should be about the same as when you were using the old
- version of ReqChange. If you are satisfied with the new settings,
- simply select save, and the new preferences files are written to
- "EnvArc:ReqChange/" for permanent use.
-
- Important note: Due to a bug in some versions of ReqChange, the deny
- preferences file may be incorrectly converted. If this happens, simply run
- the converion program again, this time specifying the NEWDENYPREFS switch
- (in case you are starting it from the Workbench, simply use the
- "ConvertPrefsBadDeny" icon).
-
-
- In case your preferences files aren't properly converted, feel free to send
- me a copy of them (the original, unconverted files that is), and I'll
- return properly converted files.
