- 100 bats flapping and flocking - JT
-
- This is a sample flocking scene. It shows how a displacement map can be used
- to make an object move. In this case a map is projected on the y and
- slid along the z axis. As it move relative to the object, the body stays
- in a constant grey scale (127), while the wings hit from 0 to 255 in
- a sine wave type pattern. This makes the wings go above and below the bodies
- grey scale value hence a flapping motion occurs. This motion could be
- enhanced by remaking my map to produce a less linear flapping action. The
- value for centering the map on each bat was randomized in the z to throw
- the displacement out of phase, otherwise all would flap in unison.
- These controls are in the scene menu pulldown.
-
- Unarchive and copy the bat object and displacement map to ram:.
-
- Notice how the bats are whiteish for contrast against black. Hmmmm...
- a rare albino colony I guess.
