  6. This release is to be considered a BETA. I believe it works OK but there
  7. are still probably bugs lurking there somewhere! In addition, I don't think
  8. this will work on OS's before 2.04 - I tried it once and the startup code
  9. crashed. I'm not sure why yet. Not having a WB 3.0 machine that hasn't been
  10. tried. Any takers?

  15. This is the distribution archive for the program Ftree. It was distributed
  16. as:

  18.     ftree0.3.lha        -- source & binary archive

  20. The binary was compiled with ixemul 39.45 and gcc2.5.8.
  21.  
  22. The source archive contains just the sources, in RCS form. The binary
  23. archive contains the compiled programs and the libraries necessary to use
  24. them. Note that the PostScript interpreter is NOT included. If you don't
  25. have a PostScript printer like a LaserWriter then I suggest using the
  26. 'post' program available on the Fish Disks Collection and elsewhere on
  27. Aminet. Ftree does not require a level 2 PostScript implementation, but
  28. will work with one.

  30. The binary archive has been compiled with the gcc 2.5.8 compiler ported by
  31. Philippe Brand - thanks for that Philippe! As a result, it uses the ixemul
  32. library and so the pathnames follow Unix syntax - that is:

  40. The ixconfig program can be used to switch off this behavoiur if you like;
  41. however this is not supplied in this archive. Only one Unix style pathname
  42. is included in the executable; "/usr/local/lib/fonts/afm" - which is only
  43. used if the font search path is not explicitly set with PSFONTPATH. This
  44. will change next relesase.

  46. The program has also been successfully compiled on various Unix machines
  47. without problems.

  49. Introduction to FTree
  50. =====================

  52. Ftree is a formatter for family history trees. Currently it only supports
  53. the standard form of tree, with a person at the top and branches down.
  54. Other varieties may come later.
  55.  
  56. Please note that this program does NOT attempt to interpret the tree - it
  57. will print what you tell it. No 'feed the people in & it'll work out the
  58. relationships' here, I'm afraid.

  60. The program currently only uses  the CLI (shell) interface. Given the
  61. current nature of the program as what is known as a filter it seemed a bit
  62. pointless to put a GUI around it; however I might do this in the future,
  63. together with a screen previewer.

  65. More information instructions for use can be found in the AmigaGuide®
  66. document in the 'guides' directory. The program comes equipped with an
  67. install script for the Commodore Installer, which should be used to set up
  68. the computer with the necessary defines.

  70. THE INSTALLER HAS NOT BEEN THOROUGHLY TESTED - please excercise care in
  71. it's use. There are probably more things it should check for and defines
  72. to modify; I just haven't worked out exactly what yet.
