  4.      If  you  have  purchased  a  new  Opus  package,  you should have
  5.      obtained BOTH  the original  Opus 5.5  manual and  two disks, the
  6.      Magellan suplementary manual and this Maggellan upgrade disk.

  8.      If you  have purchased the upgrade only, you should have obtained
  9.      the Magellan supplementary manual plus one disk.
  10.  
  11.      NOTE: The Magellan version is designed  to be  installed over the
  12.      top of a previous version of Opus 5.5 ONLY. You MUST have already
  13.      installed Opus 5.5 before installing the Magellan upgrade.

  16.  Opus Magellan Installation:

  18.      Before you install this new version, make a note of your Opus 5.5
  19.      registration  number.  (It's  in  the About requester if you have
  20.      forgotten!) .  You  will  need  this  to  complete  your Magellan
  21.      installation.

  23.      Installation of  this version  is straight forward. Open the disk
  24.      window, double-click the  Install_Opus_Magellan  icon  and follow
  25.      the directions.  When the  installation is  complete, reboot your
  26.      Amiga.

  28.      Since all program components  of this  new Magellan  version have
  29.      been  updated,  once  you  have  finished  the  installation  and
  30.      rebooted your Amiga, you will need to re-enter  your registration
  31.      details from your original Opus 5.5.

  34.  Introduction: Welcome to the Directory Opus Magellan upgrade!

  36.      From its  first release  in early '95, many Amiga users could see
  37.      the  raw  power  provided  by  Opus  5  with  its  unique concept
  38.      integrating Workbench  Replacement Mode (tm), file management and
  39.      custom functions in the one package. These concepts  were further
  40.      refined in the Opus 5.5 release in '96. During this time of great
  41.      uncertainty for the Amiga  platform  as  a  whole,  we  have been
  42.      buoyed by  the support  of Opus users, many of whom have given us
  43.      continual encouragement as well  as  much  valuable  feedback and
  44.      suggestions  on  future  directions  for  Opus  5.  After  a long
  45.      struggle we are also pleased  to  have  been  able  to  convert a
  46.      number  of  Neo-  Luddite   journalists from superfluous glitz to
  47.      dedicated followers of fashion. (The wine's in the mail, guys ;-)

  49.      Through your support Opus 5 has now become  firmly established as
  50.      the premier workbench replacement and file management program for
  51.      the Amiga.

  55.      With this new version  we have  attempted to  return your loyalty
  56.      with on-going  support for  the Amiga platform and a continuation
  57.      of our development plan  for Opus  5. We  have also  tried to add
  58.      many of  your user  suggestions as  possible which are consistent
  59.      with the metaphor of Opus.

  62.      The Magellan version is  not just  a simple  upgrade but involves
  63.      extensive redevelopment  of many components of the Opus 5  system
  64.      to give  you  enhanced  usability,  especially  in  the Workbench
  65.      Replacement Mode. We give you greater control over icons, actions
  66.      on and with icons, plus many  new features  such as  Start Menus,
  67.      extra popup  sticky menus and new background images to name but a
  68.      few. After extensive testing from our  Beta testers  we have also
  69.      improved  the   compatibility  with  Workbench  and  other  Amiga
  70.      programs with  in-built support  for the  NewIcons system, better
  71.      Cybergraphics support,  faster icon  layout, dragging and display
  72.      routines and so on. A rewritten OpusFTP module  complements these
  73.      changes and  not only gives you up to five times faster access to
  74.      the Internet  but now  has a  full GUI  for the  Address Book and
  75.      operational parameters.

  77.      We hope  you will enjoy the advanced features in this new version
  78.      which we call the Directory Opus 5 Magellan version.

  82.      Also on this disk you will  find the  latest version  of the Opus
  83.      Software Developers Kit - OpusSDK.lha.  This archive contains all
  84.      you will need to write  Opus  modules  and  other  programs which
  85.      interface directly with Opus and call the internal Opus routines.

  87.      With Opus  Magellan we  have added more than 40 new callback hoks
  88.      to make programming with Opus easier for you.
