  17. THAT much about a set of icons - I'm just gibbering on about stuff...

  19.     Well, finally DOpus5 is here!! I've waited ages for this with mixed
  20. feelings: I'd seen previews in magazines and wasn't sure if this new way of
  21. doing things would work as well as the old style in DOpus4...
  22.     I've sent off my order for DOpus5 today: I hope you will too if you
  23. use it! Yes, I was using a pirate copy: I didn't want to spend the money
  24. before I knew if I was going to get something more like DiskMaster than
  25. Opus (no disrespect to anyone with anything to do with DiskMaster, it's
  26. just my preference). Now that I've used it, I know it's worth every penny!

  28.     Opus has always been the most configurable and powerfull, directory
  29. program on the Amiga (hell, on anything I've seen! PC owners can dream of
  30. EVER having a piece of software like this!), and with v5 it's attained a
  31. new level of power. If you've used something like Browser, you'll know
  32. how nice it can be to be able to have multiple listers instead of being
  33. limited to just two -> now you can enjoy this along with the incredible
  34. configurability of Opus! (...and all this power is very easy to control:
  35. I have found the Config-GUI very intuitive, and I haven't even seen the
  36. manuals YET!)

  38.     (This is turning into a review) I have to say that there are SOME
  39. things missing from the old Opus4, but I can easily live without them, and
  40. I expect there is a lot to be added with future updates... (I'm sure there
  41. are some features I haven't found yet too, and the copy I have been using
  42. may not be the release version!)

  45.     Errr, yes where was I!!.... Anyway, a lot of people (myself included)
  46. had seen the preview screen-shots of DOpus5 and thought that it looked a
  47. little ugly (perhaps "plain" says it better)...
  48.     Well, you remember how your workbench looked when you got it: stupid
  49. badly drawn 4-colour icons, and when you installed MagicWB: _nice_ (at least,
  50. more colourful, some people hate MWB)... Opus5 is the same: they didn't
  51. include any fancy icons (unless the copy I have isn't a full version, I'll
  52. have to wait for my delivery...), but you can install them!!

  55.     So that's what this is: a collection of icons for the "Listers" in
  56. DOpus5... They're in the MagicWB style (which will probably make some of
  57. you Isomefreaks sick!) and are mostly just cut-and-paste jobs on other
  58. people's icons (all credit for the quality of images does not go to me!!).
  59. I appologise for not crediting the original artists, but I collect icons
  60. in IFF pictures and have never bothered writting down the names of who
  61. drew them...

  64.     If you want to see how Dopus5 looks with these icons installed,
  65. have a look at the example picture (NOT the ones for cutting icons out
  66. of)...  I've also included a nice picture of my workbench, and also a
  67. picture of the old DOpus4 for comparison with the new (it's small)...

  73. I decided not to break a standard and made all the icons the same size as
  74. the default ".small" ones which come with opus... Hopefully everyone will
  75. stick to this and we'll all be happy!...

  77. While I myself use the horrible 640*256 (actually, 662*256) resolution
  78. because I have to, those of you lucky enough to be able to use
  79. proportional resolutions should be able to enjoy all but about 2 of the icons
  80. without them looking stretched (consider it revenge for about 50% of them
  81. looking stretched for me!! hehe)...

  83. I'm not going to tell you how to get DOpus5 to use the icons in the IFF file
  84. because I'm assuming that you know how or can look it up in your manual
  85. (you'll obviously need a paint program to save out the icons as IFF brushes).

  88. The icons are all in the standard magic-wb colours...
  89. Personally I don't use this system, as I can't stand the way magic-wb
  90. uses BLUE as the selected window colour (It DESTROYS the bass-relief
  91. completely if you ask me!), but I've remapped them to the standard
  92. colours so that you can do whatever you want with them...
  93. (For those interested, the example picture IS using my custom
  94. colours...)

  96. There are two files to cut icons from, one which is remapped to MWB,
  97. in 8 colours, and the 16 colour one I use wich has the extra colours used
  98. for grids to draw the icons in and stuff... (Look at them both, you'll
  99. understand)...

  101. Well, enough!... Just use them! (Or get Dopus5 first, if you haven't
  102. already!)
