  3.     This file contains important information on running SID/Pic V3.4 and
  4.     Enhanced SIDPlayer with A64.  Before attempting to use these programs
  5.     we recommend that you read this file.

  8. PROBLEMS WITH SID PLAYERS
  9.  
  10.     There is a problem with some of the SID player programs that we
  11.     have tested, namely SID/Pic V3.4, by Kermit R. Woodall and Enhanced
  12.     SIDPlayer, by Compute! Publications, Inc.  The problem is that these
  13.     programs will not always play SID files completely, sometimes they
  14.     will just stop playing in the middle of a song or skip the song
  15.     entirely.  The exact cause of the problem is very technical and
  16.     difficult to explain.  The problem is not related to A64's sound
  17.     emulation, but is related to other parts of A64.

  20. USING SID PLAYER PROGRAMS
  21.  
  22.     To correct the problems with SID/Pic and Enhanced SIDPlayer we have
  23.     provided a Patch File for each program.
  24.  
  25.     To load and run the programs:
  26.  
  27.     1. Select Load Patch in the Code Menu.  You will be be prompted
  28.        with a file requester.  The Patch File drawer name should be
  29.        set to "Patches" and for the file name enter either
  30.        "SIDPic.patch" or "SIDPlayer.patch."
  31.     2. Select the Ok gadget to load the Patch File.
  32.     3. Exit to C64 Mode by selecting Exit in the A64 menu.
  33.         4. Once in C64 Mode, load the program normally.

  36. NOTES

  38.     o The problems we have found with SID/Pic and Enhanced SIDPlayer
  39.       may also be apparent in other SID player programs, they all seem
  40.       to use very similar routines.  If you have a SID player that does
  41.       not work correctly, we would like to get a copy so we can support
  42.       it.  It could also help us to resolve the problems with SID player
  43.       programs.  We would also like to hear about any SID players that
  44.       work well with A64.

  46.     o Even with a Patch File Enhanced SIDPlayer still has problems
  47.       playing some SID files.  These problems are related to A64's
  48.       speed and will be much less apparent on accelerated Amigas.
  49.       SID/Pic works very well on all Amigas.
