  42. MaxTransfer
  43. -----------

  45. Due to a bug in the OS format command, we suggest that if you set your
  46. maxtransfer according to the manual, you use 0xf000 instead of 0xffff.

  48. Un-delete
  49. ---------

  51. AFS now includes an un-delete feature. Located off the root is a subdirectory
  52. called ".deldir". It stores the last 31 deleted files. To list the currently
  53. valid deleted files (from cli) type:

  55. list :.deldir
  56.  
  57. You will notice the filenames have a number called a "slot number" appended
  58. after them to prevent duplicate file names.
  59.  
  60. To undelete a file simply copy it from the .deldir onto another drive e.g:-
  61.  
  62. copy :.deldir/NewsBatch@022 ram:
  63.  
  64. Will un-delete the NewBatch@022 file and store it in ram disk.
  65.  
  66. N.B. While it is possible to un-delete files onto the same volume, if you do
  67. this you may overwrite the file you are trying to un-delete.

  69. RemoveDirEntry

  74. You should not use this tool without consulting with support first.

  76. In the tools directory on your AFS install disk is a program called:
  77.  
  78. RemoveDirEntry
  79.  
  80. This program _forcefully_ removes a file or directory from an AFS partition.
  81.  
  82. * It does _not_ free up the space allocated by the file/directory.
  83.  
  84. * The file/directory will not go into the .deldir.
  85.  
  86. * If you remove a directory _all_ the files in this directory and any
  87.   sub-directories will be lost forever.
  88.  
  89. It should only be used in the unlikely circumstance that you have a corrupted
  90. files or directory which can not be removed by any other means. 
  91.  
  92. The only time this tool should be of any use is:
  93.  
  94. a) If there has been some physical corruption of the hard drive (Bad blocks).
  95.  
  96. b) You have incorrectly set your maxtransfer or DMA Mask and in so doing
  97.    caused a disk error.
  98.  
  99. c) Extreme memory corruption of a file or directory header at the time you
  100.    were writing to disk.
  101.  
  102. When checking with technical support prior to using this tool please have the
  103. following information ready:-
  104.  
  105. a) An output from "showconfig" (Type "showconfig" in any shell).
  106.  
  107. b) Your current AFS version (Type version "L:HardDiskAFS" in any shell).
  108.  
  109. c) Your MaxTransfer and DMA Mask setting (From HDToolBox).
  110.  
  111. d) Details of your system configuration (Hardware and software).

  114. MultiUser FileSystem Support
  115. ----------------------------

  117. An  update  to Ami-FileSafe which support MultiUser FileSystem is available
  118. soon.   If  you want to obtain this update then please contact Fourth Level
  119. Developments or your local dealer.

  121. Installation
  122. ------------

  124. If  you  have an older version of HDToolBox (WB2 and older WB3.0) then when
  125. you  try  to  add a new Ami-FileSafe partition you will find there is not a
  126. AFS\1 option.
  127.  
  128. If  this  is the case then click on "Custom File System" and then type into
  129. the "Identifier" field "0x41465301". The rest of the installation procedure
  130. is the same.
  131.  
  132. DiskSpare and MultiFileSystem
  133. -----------------------------
  134.  
  135. If you are using DiskSpare with the floppy version Ami-FileSafe then do not
  136. try  to use MultiFileSystem at the same time.  This problem should be cured
  137. in the next release.
