  1. FFS2AFS Converter (PRO)
  2. =======================

  4. Included  in  this  version  is  an  FFS2AFS  converter.  This program will
  5. convert your standard Fast File System partitions to Ami-FileSafe format.
  6.  
  7. Warning  -  While  the converter program makes every attempt to ensure your
  8. data is safe (In the event of a system crash or power loss) you could under
  9. rare  circumstances  lose  data.  We therefore suggest you make a backup of
  10. your FFS partition before running the converter.
  11.  
  12. When  you  get  to section 6E in the installation procedure (in the manual)
  13. you can instead of creating a new partition convert one of your current FFS
  14. partitions to AFS:-
  15.  
  16. a)  Choose an FFS (Standard, International or directory cache) partition to
  17. convert to AFS.
  18.  
  19. If  you are using the User version of Ami-FileSafe then you should only try
  20. to  convert  an  FFS  partition which is on a hard drive whose size is less
  21. than  650MB.  Don not forget that the user version of Ami-FileSafe can only
  22. be  used  on  one hard drive, so do not try to convert partitions from more
  23. than one drive.

  25. You  now  need  to  ensure  you have at least 10% of the partition free. If
  26. you  do  not then you will need to either compress, delete or move off some
  27. files to free up enough space for the conversion.

  29. b)  At  this  point  you  may want to re-organize this partition to improve
  30. performance.   If  you  decide to do this you will need a shareware program
  31. called  "Reorg".   You should optimize your FFS partition with "Free blocks
  32. after boot block" selected (From the advanced options menu).

  34. c) Open a shell and type:

  36. ffs2afs name:

  38. Where  'name'  is  the name of an FFS partition that you wish to convert to
  39. AFS.
  40.  
  41. You  will asked if you wish to proceed, if you type 'y' then that partition
  42. will be converted to AFS.

  44. If the converter program fails due to lack of free space:
  45.  
  46. Wait  until  the FFS partition is validated.  Go back and free up some more
  47. space on that partition before trying again.

  49. If the conversion finishes sucessfully:

  51. Reboot your Amiga.

  53. The  partition  you  converted  should  now  be useable as normal.  You may
  54. repeat this procedure for other FFS partitions if you wish.
