- HUGE BASE V2.0
- ==============
-
- HUGE BASE V2.0 - Designed and created by Matt Cartlidge.
- Bug testing by Gareth Knight.
-
- INTRODUCTION DOCUMENT
- =====================
-
- Hello and a HUGE welcome to Huge Base V2.0.
-
- This program will amaze you when you use it. It is packed with error
- messages and statements for every action so that you can find out what
- you are doing wrong or what you need to do quickly and easily.
-
- ** Please register this program. This version is a demo version. The
- save function has been disabled. Please see the registration screen in
- Huge Base V2.0 for information.
-
- This new V2.0 of Huge Base is more advanced than V1.00 and contains
- suggestions made by YOU! It is faster, more powerful and best of all,
- you've got a copy of it!
-
- If you're a previous user of Huge Base you may notice that the
- documents supplied are very similar to that of V1.00. You're right! I
- have simply changed, added and updated the documents to save me typing
- them all out again.
-
- Please see the READ ME! document for miscellaneous information and
- details on how to register to the latest version.
-
- Also read the INSTRUCTIONS document for how to use Huge Base. It is
- very easy to use when you've used it for a while.
-
- Don't load Huge Base thinking you know how to use everything without
- reading the documents first. Huge Base uses a neat way of searching
- and, unless you know what you're doing, there could be some confusion!
-
- Huge Base needs a minimum of 1MB to operate, 2MB is recommended for
- large databases. You will find that more and more programs require
- more and more memory. Although the name Huge Base may seem that it is
- a serious program for storing masses of information, it is also just
- as good for very small databases.
-
- See further below for a small summary of Huge Base and maybe some
- questions that you want the answer to.
-
- Enjoy!
-
- ======================================================================
-
- WHAT GIT COME UP WITH THE NAME "HUGE BASE"?
- ===========================================
- Okay, okay, it's not the best of names. But, now I've been using the
- name for ages, it seems like a proper database program and I don't
- really think of it as a crap name at all anymore.
-
- WHY DOES HUGE BASE OPEN ITS OWN SCREEN RATHER THAN A WORKBENCH WINDOW?
- ======================================================================
- Workbench windows, in my opinion, are only good for some applications.
- A serious program should open its own screen and use it without
- resorting to a window. Obviously, small programs and CLI programs use
- windows because they are ideal. If a program needs to use a window the
- size of the whole screen, then why not open a new screen? And besides,
- AMOS Pro can't use a Workbench window properly anyway!
-
- WHY AREN'T THERE MANY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS IN THIS DOCUMENT?
- =============================================================
- Because I can't think of many, that's why! But if you send some
- questions in, I'll do my best to answer them and put them in the next
- documentation that I write.
-
- WHY USE HUGE BASE?
- ==================
- I will now provide a summary of what Huge Base can do and why I feel
- it is better than other database programs.
-
- PROGRAMMING - It's written in AMOS. So what? This program just shows
- what AMOS can do. There are at least 110,000 users of AMOS
- Professional (and that's not including AMOS). Whoever said that AMOS
- is on a losing streak is VERY VERY wrong. AMOS is still the best
- programming language around and, until another programming language as
- powerful as AMOS is released, it's here to stay people!
-
- SEARCHING - Powerful searching functions allow you to search quickly
- and easily under ANY criteria whatsoever. Unique individual record
- selection makes this searching technique an brilliant one.
-
- MESSAGES - Hundreds of messages tell you exactly what you are doing,
- when you are doing it. The only thing it doesn't tell you is, how to
- win the lottery.
-
- GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE - The great GUI system makes a great modern
- environment away from all of those nasty Workbench windows and
- buttons.
-
- POP UP MENUS - GUI pop up menus allow you to make a selection easy
- and quickly. If you want the "POP UP" to go away, you simply click
- somewhere else on the screen.
-
- STORAGE - Huge Base uses a minimal amount of memory to store your
- data. Unlike most databases, the output file depends on the amount of
- data you have in your database. The more you have, the bigger the file
- will be. Some database programs save the whole field even when it
- could be completely empty.
-
- SOUND - Not very exciting, but it's there! Sound at your fingertips,
- and a range of soundset moods to choose from.
-
- PREFS - Forget the sound! What about the other preferences? Save them
- onto disk and you don't have to touch them again.
-
- LAYOUT - With all of the function buttons located at the bottom of the
- screen, they are always accessible and respond immediately to your
- actions. And with keyboard shortcuts on nearly every button, it is
- perfect for people who hate using the mouse all of the time or their
- mouse is knackered.
-
- FIELDS - The functions for defining fields, changing fields etc. are
- excellent. Move, modify, delete, clear and more ... easily and at a
- very speedy pace. And what about the limit? 100 fields is far too much
- for anyone to use, I hope!
-
- RECORDS - Various functions relating to records make data entry almost
- effortless. With a limit of 60,000 (yes, sixty thousand) records, I
- don't think anyone will complain about it.
-
- SUPER SUPPORT - With an author that is guaranteed to stick with Huge
- Base and the excellence of the ever popular Amiga, whatever happens.
- This author is here to stay, whether you like it or not!
-
- SHAREWARE - To finish on a good note. This program is shareware. You
- are getting a VERY good deal - a great database program for an
- almost giveaway price. I like people using my programs. Enjoy, and
- share!
-
- FUNNY - Who could be funnier than me? To top it off, I've got a sense
- of humour. That can't be bad can it?
