  11. Hello and a HUGE welcome to Huge Base V2.0.
  12.  
  13. This program will amaze you when you use it. It is packed with error 
  14. messages and statements for every action so that you can find out what
  15. you are doing wrong or what you need to do quickly and easily.
  16.  
  17. ** Please register this program. This version is a demo version. The 
  18. save function has been disabled. Please see the registration screen in
  19. Huge Base V2.0 for information.

  21. This new V2.0 of Huge Base is more advanced than V1.00 and contains 
  22. suggestions made by YOU! It is faster, more powerful and best of all, 
  23. you've got a copy of it!

  25. If you're a previous user of Huge Base you may notice that the 
  26. documents supplied are very similar to that of V1.00. You're right! I 
  27. have simply changed, added and updated the documents to save me typing
  28. them all out again.

  30. Please see the READ ME! document for miscellaneous information and 
  31. details on how to register to the latest version.

  33. Also read the INSTRUCTIONS document for how to use Huge Base. It is 
  34. very easy to use when you've used it for a while.

  36. Don't load Huge Base thinking you know how to use everything without 
  37. reading the documents first. Huge Base uses a neat way of searching 
  38. and, unless you know what you're doing, there could be some confusion!
  39.  
  40. Huge Base needs a minimum of 1MB to operate, 2MB is recommended for 
  41. large databases. You will find that more and more programs require 
  42. more and more memory. Although the name Huge Base may seem that it is 
  43. a serious program for storing masses of information, it is also just 
  44. as good for very small databases.

  46. See further below for a small summary of Huge Base and maybe some 
  47. questions that you want the answer to.

  53. WHAT GIT COME UP WITH THE NAME "HUGE BASE"?
  54. ===========================================
  55. Okay, okay, it's not the best of names. But, now I've been using the 
  56. name for ages, it seems like a proper database program and I don't 
  57. really think of it as a crap name at all anymore.
  58.  
  59. WHY DOES HUGE BASE OPEN ITS OWN SCREEN RATHER THAN A WORKBENCH WINDOW?

  61. Workbench windows, in my opinion, are only good for some applications.
  62. A serious program should open its own screen and use it without 
  63. resorting to a window. Obviously, small programs and CLI programs use 
  64. windows because they are ideal. If a program needs to use a window the
  65. size of the whole screen, then why not open a new screen? And besides,
  66. AMOS Pro can't use a Workbench window properly anyway!

  68. WHY AREN'T THERE MANY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS IN THIS DOCUMENT?

  70. Because I can't think of many, that's why! But if you send some 
  71. questions in, I'll do my best to answer them and put them in the next 
  72. documentation that I write.

  74. WHY USE HUGE BASE?
  75. ==================
  76. I will now provide a summary of what Huge Base can do and why I feel 
  77. it is better than other database programs.
  78.  
  79. PROGRAMMING - It's written in AMOS. So what? This program just shows 
  80. what AMOS can do. There are at least 110,000 users of AMOS 
  81. Professional (and that's not including AMOS). Whoever said that AMOS 
  82. is on a losing streak is VERY VERY wrong. AMOS is still the best 
  83. programming language around and, until another programming language as
  84. powerful as AMOS is released, it's here to stay people!

  86. SEARCHING - Powerful searching functions allow you to search quickly 
  87. and easily under ANY criteria whatsoever. Unique individual record 
  88. selection makes this searching technique an brilliant one.

  90. MESSAGES - Hundreds of messages tell you exactly what you are doing, 
  91. when you are doing it. The only thing it doesn't tell you is, how to 
  92. win the lottery.

  94. GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE - The great GUI system makes a great modern 
  95. environment away from all of those nasty Workbench windows and 
  96. buttons.

  98. POP UP MENUS - GUI pop up menus allow you to make a selection easy 
  99. and quickly. If you want the "POP UP" to go away, you simply click 
  100. somewhere else on the screen.

  102. STORAGE - Huge Base uses a minimal amount of memory to store your 
  103. data. Unlike most databases, the output file depends on the amount of 
  104. data you have in your database. The more you have, the bigger the file
  105. will be. Some database programs save the whole field even when it 
  106. could be completely empty.

  108. SOUND - Not very exciting, but it's there! Sound at your fingertips, 
  109. and a range of soundset moods to choose from.
  110.  
  111. PREFS - Forget the sound! What about the other preferences? Save them 
  112. onto disk and you don't have to touch them again.
  113.  
  114. LAYOUT - With all of the function buttons located at the bottom of the
  115. screen, they are always accessible and respond immediately to your 
  116. actions. And with keyboard shortcuts on nearly every button, it is 
  117. perfect for people who hate using the mouse all of the time or their 
  118. mouse is knackered.

  120. FIELDS - The functions for defining fields, changing fields etc. are 
  121. excellent. Move, modify, delete, clear and more ... easily and at a 
  122. very speedy pace. And what about the limit? 100 fields is far too much
  123. for anyone to use, I hope!

  125. RECORDS - Various functions relating to records make data entry almost
  126. effortless. With a limit of 60,000 (yes, sixty thousand) records, I 
  127. don't think anyone will complain about it.

  129. SUPER SUPPORT - With an author that is guaranteed to stick with Huge 
  130. Base and the excellence of the ever popular Amiga, whatever happens. 
  131. This author is here to stay, whether you like it or not!

  133. SHAREWARE - To finish on a good note. This program is shareware. You 
  134. are getting a VERY good deal - a great database program for an 
  135. almost giveaway price. I like people using my programs. Enjoy, and 
  136. share!

  138. FUNNY - Who could be funnier than me? To top it off, I've got a sense 
  139. of humour. That can't be bad can it?
